50% access time difference make a performance impact in applications like Vista ReadyBoost. It is the access times that make it as a viable replacement for hard disks as far as paging is concerned. CPU usage...who cares? It is not related to the USB drive as far as I know. It is related to the USB controller on the motherboard.
