Nowadays, a lot of dealers are selling various USB broadband Dongles labeled as 7.2Mbps. Some of these actually support 7.2Mbps download speed, but some of them do not.

For an example, Huawei E160 can only support upto 3.6Mbps speed. If you flash the device with a latest firmware, the network icon will indicate that your connection is 7.2Mbps. Therefore, these dongles are sold as ‘7.2Mbps ready’ modems. This is pure BS. Huawei technical forum clearly states that E160 can only do 3.6Mbps. Network icon shown value is up to the firmware and it can be changed.:frown:

Do not get caught in this scum. Before you buy a USB dongle, check with the official site as to whether the device can deliver the promised speed. Also, you can Google the model no. and check for reviews and speed tests.

Needless to say, try to stay out of unbranded Chinees garbage. Huawei is used by millions worldwide and has a very good reputation, in spite of its Chinese origin.
