So Ranil becoming president was the goal of the aragalaya? 😂

Nope, it was about sending all the cronies who led the country to economic collapse (including Ranil) home.

There were two slogans first and foremost: "Gota Go Home" and "Say No to 225"

However an election couldn’t be held without a leader, so a compromise had to be made.

The results of the 2024 Presidential and General Elections were a direct reflection of the Aragalaya effect.

Yes, the current political setup came after aboloshing the mobarchy in 2008. Most of the leading parties are Maoist communist leaning. The PM who resigned too were leading figures in aragalaya against the monarchy and had been in jail for around 14 years. So there is no guarantee that govts that come from aragalayas will be great. They could be corrupt as everyone else had been. This govt that resigned is said to be the 13th govt since 2008.
    damn...fking hell...

The goal was to dismantle the old political culture (dubbed the "system") and bring those who mismanaged public funds to justice

you just said it was getting rid of Gota and the rest of the 225 including ranil

They were the representatives of the aforementioned "system" of musical chairs between two political parties in cahoots with each other

Gota's forced step down symbolically marked the beginning of the end of the that "system"

We are just pawns in the American Indian geopolitical chess game against China's one belt plan. Pakistan might be the next country on this list. But it is the fault of the corrupted, authoritarian leaderships in these countries which pave the way for the US Indo agenda

ah...nice word gymnastics to say "no...the goals of the aragalaya were not met"

You’ll understand when you realize that the "Aragalaya" isn’t just about the protests

it represented a fundamental shift in people’s mindset.

It may have started out of hopelessness like in nepal, but when they managed to oust an executive president and the "system" proved powerless against it they realized they had the power to create change.

Once RW was elected president by the MR clan it became crystal clear to people that the two seemingly opposing parties had been bamboozling them all along.

    That's why:

as a whole the Aragalaya was a boon for Sri Lankans

    All's well that ends well

going around the bush again..the aragalaya was nipped and it didn't subside because it's goals were met.

If it could have been "nipped" the executive president wouldn’t have stepped down.

It ended because the protesters achieved their goals and most of them recognized that pushing further would have served no purpose except possibly leading to anarchy
