Budda statue placed in a shrine room at the foot of the Bo-TREE at "Maha Wanguwa",Moragolla along Talatuoya -Galaha Road in Kandy district was found dashed and destroyed.
People in the area had gathered in hundreds to demonstrate against this provocative action and the police had been forced to arrest the suspects.
It is alleged that they had come in a white van in the early hours (3.00 AM) on the 27th instant to carry out this treacherous deed.These men had pulled out the statue in the shrine room and thrown it on to the main road breaking it into pieces.
In this conection three men attached to a newly erected Christian prayer house at Sriyagama-Belwood junction at Galaha,have been taken into custody by Talatuoya police.
Later those arrested were released by the police.
