Buns had been thrown at actress and Southern Provincial Council election candidate Anarakali Akarsha at a meeting presided by SLFP General Secretary, Minister Maithripala Sirisena at the Galle Provincial Council auditorium on August 26.
Supporters of Balapitiya SLFP organizer Lal Silva, also known as Premalal Navanandana de Silva who were angry that he was not given nominations to contest the election had thrown the buns served with tea at Anarkali.
Lal Silva had told Miathripala Sirisena that following an announcement made by the President that all electoral organizers had to be prepared for the Provincial Council election, he had spent Rs. 30 lakhs on posters, cut outs and other propaganda material and was not given nominations.
When Maithripala had asked as to why money was spent on propaganda work even before receiving nominations, the crowd had started to shout out loud. The people have then started to laugh at Anarkali and thrown buns at her compelling Maithripala to stop the meeting halfway.
Electoral organizers of the Galle District, candidates at the Provincial Council election and their friends had attended this meeting convened by Maithripala.
