If any site disrupts someones wellbeing or in this case a countries well being....the needful should be done to stop it....& that's exactly what SLT has done....u dun need any warnings for that....

Firstly do I look like I care about the LTTE? I'm just saying

1. They didn't update there Policy and remove the unfiltered part (they are lying!!!).

2. They didn't inform us of the block and if I didn't come to Elekri I wouldn't know about the block! I would be a stupid ass and yelled "the LTTE server is down!".

So please read the first post again :/ this isn't about the LTTE this is about SLT not following procidures.. And I'm not saying the tamilnet.com shouldn't have been blocked.. I'm saying I/we should have been informed of the block and the policy should have been updated

They have the right to monitor! Not to block... I fell they should have openly blocked the site insted of doing this hidden! And they should step in to change that Policy ASAP. They are filtering the service (blocking a site on the internet so now its filtered access). Never the less I feel that they shouldn't have blocked a site out of the blue!

Noone will complain about the blocking but its not nice to block it like that. And who is gonna belive tamilnet.com anyway????

Since we are paying customers SLT should respect us and :

1. Get the Media to say "Dear customers of SLT, on request of the GOSL SLT has decided to block access to www.tamilnet.com. The SLT policy will be updated upon the blocking, Sorry for the inconvinence caused"

2. Update the Policy : SLT will block any website that is a risk to national security or any other reasonable factor

3. Block the site.

4. Users feel they have been respected.

Hehe "SLT have right to monitor the traffic but not to block." Man funny idea as your name says about you. Machan people should have something called privacy and ISP also can't listen to the data transfer. They can with a government order but it’s unethical. If they did that they can easily catch few major players who work with those LTTE internet sites. Super easy.

You say SLT should have done that step by step. You mean like they launch ADSL or WiMAX? With press conferences, All media ads etc..? hehe
Anyway internet is not something which is produced by a company(s). It's not under anyone’s control or anyone setup website line you check. Like you have with TV. It has no schedule like they setup the programs you watch it. Its totally open world and SLT or any ISP just giving access to that open world.
Its totally like the society and the world. Government have right to block drugs coming in to country, Illegal weapons, diseases, terrorists etc.. They do that protect the county and the people. So internet also a open world like that false information can leave the country into a disaster like no other things can do.
So don't expect something like special notifications when they stop programs in TV or add new programs. When they change the flavor of your favorite food. Internet is something out of control and it’s same as the society, even more critical.

You say no one believe in Tamilnet, then why worry about it if no one needs it. If you want jokes sites try the google keyword “daily jokes”

Anyway tamilnet not blocked anymore. When it was blocked I saw big notifications in Tamilnet saying they gonna strictly take action about this block with so called international human rights organizations. And they were shouting so much. But now block has been removed but not a single notification in Tamilnet.
They don’t even mention about it. Nice journalism tamilnet. haha

Well its not about tamilnet.. I was mostly worried that SLT could start a spree of site blockings like this... Also they don't need to have a conference... just a normal TV ad. A news paper ad would have done ok.

You know how many srilankan porn sites exist in internet? How many other LTTE sites which supports LTTE by spreading the false information? Non of them are blocked. Government blocks it when its really crucial for the people in the country. Terrorism is the biggest disaster this country facing now and LTTE is a major threat to whole world.

SLT can't do anything violating government’s policies and regulations as jollypappa said.
