By Blocking a website SLT has

Hi,

Edit: People People!! Look!! I'm just saying SLT should have updated its policy page!! Because they are not giving unfiltered access. Now in addition to that you'll must understand that I'm not saying "unblock tamilnet.com" I'm just saying SLT's policy page need to updated as its incorrect.
Now.. please stop overreacting dudes.. I'm not a LTTE guy... I'm anti-LTTE (I can't help that though)

Edit : I'm not saying they shouldn't have blocked it! I'm saying that there steps to take when doing certen things! Could have spent some money on a TV Ad and told its customers of the block!

By blocking access to the tamilnet.com website SLT has voilated its own User Policy. Because they say

Unfiltered Service
We cannot control the content that you will receive, that is we are providing you with
unfiltered access to Internet
and SLTNet has no obligation to monitor it either. However
User agrees that SLTNet has the right to electronically monitor the service from time to
time and to disclose such information to any law, regulation or other legal bodies as and
when it's necessary to continue providing proper service or to protect its users.

Its found here! http://www.sltnet.lk/policy.html just incase they decide to update it I took a screenshot. http://csoft-p.no-ip.info/sltpol.png

I think they should have notified there users before they change the policy! After all may be users signed to that agreement! And may disagree with the new one (I'm fine either way hehe).

Why does the goverment want to poke into things like this? If this continues who knows! Elekiri.com might be blocked for having warez links too!! What is happening to our country :( someone save it!! :(

Thanks,
Funnyguy

Chirantha is not a Tamil Name ryt ???

But then why you are doing this.. Eventhough they violated their user policy I beleive they did the correct thing....

There shouldn't be any space in cyberspace for terrorism...

Its just like America blocked Al-Queda web site..

No one can blame them...

But be carefull about what you talk.. I might think you as a fu**** Tiger

This is a very small thing comapred to the violations done by LTTE.

And it is also for the well being of the country.

Can you compare kenda with kanda?

I'm not sure whether U work for an NGO.

And bro... Who are you to question about the policies of the government...???

Atleast do you have the right to vote in Sri Lanka..???

BTW.. There are no warez links in ElaKiri.. But even if they had them, that is not a reason to block a site...

Only reasons for blocking a site are :
    1) Nudity, Porn, Sexuality
    2) Terrorism
    3) Illegal drugs

They have the right to monitor! Not to block... I fell they should have openly blocked the site insted of doing this hidden! And they should step in to change that Policy ASAP. They are filtering the service (blocking a site on the internet so now its filtered access). Never the less I feel that they shouldn't have blocked a site out of the blue!

Noone will complain about the blocking but its not nice to block it like that. And who is gonna belive tamilnet.com anyway????

Since we are paying customers SLT should respect us and :

    1. Get the Media to say "Dear customers of SLT, on request of the GOSL SLT has decided to block access to www.tamilnet.com. The SLT policy will be updated upon the blocking, Sorry for the inconvinence caused"

    2. Update the Policy : SLT will block any website that is a risk to national security or any other reasonable factor

    3. Block the site.

    4. Users feel they have been respected.

    he he... very funny.

Can you create a service company and create a policy that will violate government rules and regulations. Ask from yourself and then read terrorism act. Then you can understand.

I'm not saying they shouldn't have blocked it.. But I think they should have done it step by step insted of just taking the quick way!

What is there to explain?!? I'm online 24X7 btw! I'm not saying they shouldn't have blocked it :/ I'm saying they should have taken the nessary steps first and blocked it afterwards! And only the LTTE would say "don't block the site".
