I do understand the mathematical process very well.
But what I don't is your logic behind.
    addidng
    0.5
    0.33
    0.01

Can you explain that to me:confused:
and you are dividing one horse into parts !!!!!!
    How is that LOGICAL ?????

fraction entitled to 1st son from inheritance =1/2
    " " " " 2nd son " " =1/3
    " " " " 3rd son " " =1/9

number of horses going to be wasted being killed=1

so take that horse as a bonus one and parts of the horse entitled to each son.

    1st=1*(1/2)=0.5
    2nd=1*(1/3)=0.333
    3rd=1*(1/9)=0.111

And in maths, for the purpose of calculations, anything can be partitioned. end result will prove if it's possible to partition or not.
    eg:- calculus

Well can u explain this to me

    පලවෙනි එක තනිකරම ගණන් වලින් හදන්න පුළුවන්.

    horses for the 1st= 17/2=8.5
    " " " " 2nd=17/3=5.666..~5.67
    " " " " 3rd= 17/2=1.999..~1.99

total amount of horses got divided= 8.5+5.67+1.99=16.16

because of the part 0.16, one horse get killed. Instead of killing that one, it get divided in to respective portions the sons were promised. so it ends up like this.

    horses for the 1st= 8.5+1/2=8.5+0.5=9
    "" 2nd= 5.66..+1/3=5.66..+0.33..=6
    "" 3rd= 1.99..+1/9=1.99..+0.11..=2

How come 1.99+0.11 = 2 when it is actually 2.1
Did I miss something there or z it the math or what ???????

    Here goes the next question

Bit complex than the other questions
But feel free to ask anything

    Question

You are stuck in a prison and u need to put exactly 6kg weight on the prison gate scale to open the gate.
You were given 2 jugs one has a capacity of 5kg and the other is 7kg
And a huge barrel of water which you can put into those jugs to get the 6kg weight.....
If you mis the weight the prion floor will collapse and u will die..

Gv me the exact steps how ur gonna survive?

fill both jugs halfway on their respective capacity & put them together on the scale.

    7/2 = 3.5 Kg
    5/2 = 2.5 Kg
    ------------

    3.5 + 2.5 = 6Kg

hold the 7 liter(assuming pure water) container over the big barrel. fill it once with the full 5 liter one. then do the same again. the amount that spills over is 3kg( (5*2)-7).
do the same thing again and we end up with 6 liter or 6 kg of water in the big barrel.:D

    [(5*2)-7]*2=6

    OOPPPSss....

lol typo machan. typed in a hurry and felt too much work to type in fractions.
    it should be
    (17/9) + (1/9)
    1.89+0.11
    :sorry:

    Then my mistake machan...
    Sorryy :sorry:

    U got it correct then...
By the way confusion is such dat you have to work with pieces of horses which is little odd.
But as you said finally you are getting the exact full figures....
    hehe...
    Well done machan...

    Good point Machan

fill both jugs halfway on their respective capacity & put them together on the scale.

    7/2 = 3.5 Kg
    5/2 = 2.5 Kg
    ------------

    3.5 + 2.5 = 6 Kg

But given the limited objects you were given..
How exactly you are gonna measure half of each jug exactly..
Thing is you need to put on exact weight on the prison gate scale or else you will die in this case..
Measuring half exact is the problem

    Anyway keep trying machan...

    [(5*2)-7]*2=6

But machan you only have 2 jugs which one is 5 kg and other is 7kg once it is fully filled up.

keeping 3kg in the 5kg jug it self, how you are going to do the same thing again without pulling out that 3kg..

Further you cannot measure the weight of water in the big barrell...

Anyway appreciate you effort and active participation here man..
    Keep up ...

ooh ok. then it should work this way.

    5kg container=A 7kg container=B

fill A with B untill it's full. now we have 2 in B.

transfer that 2 in to emptied A.
    7-5=2

take another full B and fill A till it's full. now we have 4 in B.

transfer that 4 in to emptied A.
    7-(5-2)=4

take another full B and fill A till it's full. now we have 6 in B.
    7-(5-4)=6

    :D
