I studied games programming. It's somewhat of a niche. From what I've learned from my experiences best advice I can give you is find an internship regardless of being games development. Maybe choose this in something that has really good career opportunities. But if you have time to wait it's your choice (After all it comes down to what you want and waht you choose.)

Then use your own time to build game projects. This is the most important part. Most of the successful games developers have a portfolio of their own projects. You can start small, but this is the most crucial part. If you are in Sri Lanka try to make into Sim Centric. They work with Bohemia Interactive, develops VBS2 Military simulation. This is similar to Arma 2 game. You can start some projects with this as well. There's tons of content out there and the community is huge.

I forgot to mention I already have basic understanding of game dev/design. I have been doing freelance projects in game dev for around 2 years.(Unity)

I just want to solidify my role as a game dev and gain more prog. I am scared if I go into full stack/web (I don't love them) I will not be very motivated or I will hate the job.

    Apply foreign companies as well.

Make your own games at night. Do a regular dev day job.

I watched most of his videos. I also made few games so far. I will keep making them from the side
