This is the same link I previously posted. R=This doesn't say a transit visa is required..
It simply says....

Always require VISA, except in direct transit by air and when the person does not leave the airport transit area.

Looks like Always require Visa is ONLY to entry into HKG.

Yes.. it seems to be contradictory. The table header says..
Always require VISA, except in direct transit by air and when the person does not leave the airport transit area''

But the remarks field says, (for SriLanka)
"All nationals (except holders of Diplomatic and Official passports) are required to hold a valid visa for the HKSAR for whatever purpose (including those who are in transit and remain on the airside). Holders of Diplomatic and Official passports may visit the HKSAR visa-free for a stay not exceeding 14 days."

I cannot say which one is the correct one. That's why you GOT to check with CX reservations line. They will not board you if a visa is really
required. There's no point taking anyone's advice because of the confusion.

Unless someone who travelled recently - within a month or so - can verify. Rules can change pretty fast.

TWOV (Transit Without Visa):
Nationals of Sri Lanka traveling on Cathay Pacific (CX) or Cathay Dragon (KA) are allowed to transit without a visa if passenger has a valid visa or proof of residency of Australia, Canada, Japan, Korea (Rep.), New Zealand, United Kingdom, USA or a Schengen Member State.

WARNING: A HKG Transit Visa is required when connecting with an airline other than Cathay Pacific (CX) or Cathay Dragon (KA).

a. Originated station makes passport photocopy for station filing in case required to submit to HK Immigration upon request.
b. Send MAAS telex – TWOV to arrival carrier for escort and keep departure carrier copied.
c. MAAS – TWOV telex MUST include the port of origin / destination, flights / date, passenger full name, passport numbers and date of birth.
