Name me something that a sri lankan invented, during his career at Sri Lanka. Everything you use (domestic) is made by people from UK, America and rest of MEDCs. Prove me wrong.

Hey man, here's a fact for you. Out of UK's population, 95 is British white (Actually this is true, even though London has only few whites). ONLY 5 percentage is the rest (including African, African whites and of course Asians). As I said, Nearly all of the languages, you'd find here. If you had national holiday for every person's cultural event, there will be NO WORKING day here. I know this for a fact as the high school I went to had something to celebrate every week in the assembly. In fact, its one of the inside jokes that floated around the school during my time there. Anyways, as I said, Tamil people are waaay better off here. I am tellling you because I know so (having lived in the warzone for 8 years may I add).

Sri Lanka may "recognise" Tamil as a language, but its people doesn't accept us as humans. I know this. I have experienced this. (I am directly affected by the war so, please don't take this to the extream.)

So you agree that only BRITISH can have holidays because they are the majority right? So you agree that in UK British has certain privileges that other Ethnic groups does not have.... am I right? If so why NOT in Sri Lanka? So BRITISH can have but Sinhalese cannot? Still we managed to make public holidays.. respecting other people's religions and cultures... If you dont have a brain to understand that better not do Civil Engineering...

The issue here is not whether having many public holidays is laughable or not... but its constitutionally enforced for the people.. the value is there.. you talk BIG about tamils worldwide.. then why not realize these values! NOW THAT'S LAUGHABLE!!  From one side you say "I care about Tamil OMG!!!" from the other "Its OK our rights are legally enforced or not".. so what am I to believe here? The first or the latter... make you stance!! NOW!! In any case you might have to take back some of your own words!!

Sri Lanka may "recognise" Tamil as a language, but its people doesn't accept us as humans. I know this. I have experienced this. (I am directly affected by the war so, please don't take this to the extream.)

Free education for tamils in tamil schools eyy??? If you respect our language that much, why do you "force" us to learn your language, yet Singaleese students don't even have the option to choose Tamil as an extra subject? That sounds fair to you?

AS A MATTER OF FACT.... IT DOES SOUNDS PERFECTLY FAIR TO ME!!!

Does in UK they recognize Tamil as a language and ask British kids to learn it? Does in UK it is a secondary subject that British Kids can take in schools? I can ask someone right here in this thread... there's a British whom already commented!!!

Dude... SRI LANKA is run by Sinhalese... 75% of the work force is infact Sinhalese.. 75% of the population speak Sinhalese... not in Sri Lanka where ever Tamils live they have to learn the native language 1st because where ever they live they are minority!! Tell me if its not true.. this is how it goes minority must learn majority language in order to survive in a majority!!! EVERYWHERE IN THE WORLD!!! INCLUDING UK!!

But still in Sri Lanka.. every exam, every govt. document still published in all 3 languages... You can appeal to Gordon Brown and see if he does that for "PROUD UK TAMILS"!!

Mate, trust me. The fact is, once I graduate, I will be start earning 5 times the amount that a Sri Lankan international student would be (who's working in SL) even with a better degree. Sri Lanka is a developing country, with a civil war to fund. You can not possibly deny that. Most of the 'tax' that the government gets goes into fund the war. If this is the way its going to go, I think it would be the last LEDC to develop. The economical situation in SL is both very sad and laughable. Look at the currency difference man. Again, you will not understand the benefits that we're getting over here without coming to UK and seeing for your self. Services are way better. Even in rural areas, you get runing water, electricity and a supermarket will be found within 15 minutes walking distance (unless you're in one of the ancient forest grounds of course ) The place that I was from (in SL), 10 family share the same well, has no electricity, and its definately not hygenic - nothing changed - I came to the country in 2004 - decided never to set foot in it until problems are resolved and politicians pull their socks up and work for what they are paid for.

Once again.. I'm not interested in your bragging about what facilities you get in UK or the quality of the education, this actually happens when you come from "mudukku" in Sri Lanka people tend to get excited about the luxury!!  Anyway take your time!!!

But one thing has to be said.. now you are comparing SL and UK... it is your same kind (Tamils) that helped English sucked up all our resources. If not for you Tamils in the olden era.. Sri Lanka would have still be a developed nation!

So whatever SH*T you went through in Sri Lanka blame in on your fore fathers first not us!!

Actually, I would've made a huge difference in SL. atm I'm doing Civil Engineerng MEng at a very respectable and globally recognised university in UK. Just the other day I was going through the league table... Colombo university man... Do you know its ranking globally? I was browzing through the pages and pages and was incredably shocked to find it in the 500ish place man. If that doesn't make you wanting to stay in SL and continue higher eduatioation, i dont know what will . I mean, the only sri lankan university, 500tish place??? Thats laughable. Its just plain stupid.

Normally when people reach higher status they must be more humble.. this is the quality of "Sakkili" like you... I have very clear idea of where you coming from now!!

Well... don't get too excited though!!! It was never a new thing for ya'll to lick white a*ses.. since generations have been doing it!!  Keep it up!!

You're right man. I'm not coming back to SL. Not even for holidays. If what you just said sticks (which I hope it will), you just lost the revenue that you get from tourism every freeking year. haha... well good luck trying to live in a crappy country, of which economy is hanging by a really really thin thread. Hope you brought your daily supply, because anytime soon, the economy is going to collapse taking all of you down with it. It just matter of time

Oh! you are NOT coming to SL? OMG!! our tourism will fall down then!! I'm so scared!!

Everybody listen.... Sri Lankan tourism rely on "PROUD UK TAMILS" BUAHAHA!!!

How much you come and spend here... erm... 2 thosai and 2 wadai? That'll be what? 100 Rupees?

GET A LIFE!!!

Man... Tamil live in the land. What are you going to do with the land without anyone occupying it anyway? Use it as a junkyard to bury innocent tamil people? (if all tamil's fled, the place would be nothing by a ghost town because lets face it, 1. Sri Lankan singaleese population isnt large enough to occipy entire land and 2. you guys sure aint going to reproduce that quickly )

Oh! so all over the world people must give all the lands which they are not using to the Tamils!!

OK! I get it!! You are going to be a brilliant CIVIL ENGINEER!!!  Your logical thinking is the problem though!!! that's more like suited for a JANITOR course!!

By the way....there are NO SINHALESE & MUSLIMS because Terrorist have all but genocide or chased them out of there..

To make way for PARAYAKARAN'S racially pure homeland!! SHAME ON YOU!

How many years I've been there is not a concern here. I am glad I got out when I did. Ohh... LTTE did requrit children at an early age. There is no prove that they continue to do so. If you could find it I'd be glad to read. Again, I don't speak in behalf of LTTE. I dont like some of their policies. I simply express my opinion regarding the crisis.

So you agree they have children combatants? So do you think its disgusting or not?? Answer please!!

23 years huh? score man! maybe thats your problem. Ask your self this question: Why is it Tamils and Singaleese continue to fight while the rest of the multi cultural world(s) live in harmony. Having lived in the country for 23 long long long long years, it shold be an easy question to answer right [this is a rhetorical question if you havent realised already.]

I can ask the same thing.... then why cant Tamils live with Sinhalese like they already live in other countries with majority? when other countries are not even recognized them as Sri Lanka have already done?

Why in Banda-Chalva pact Tamils asked for 50-50 representation when the population percentages clearly suggests Sinhalese more!

IS IT FAIR?

Sri Lanka really stinks... I dont know why they have a lion's picture in their flag... They should replace it with a chipmunk holding a stick shouting "help me! I can't bare the smell! This place needs some air freshners! Lots of it!" lol haha

Ha..ha.. You know... for majority Tamils Sri Lanka is like grapes for the FOX!!!

I hope you know the REST of the story!!

Its OK I understand the sorrow!! The one that got away ha??

haha are you fucking kiding me?

1. you live in one of the shittiest countries in the world
2. you have never been out of sri lanka all your life
3. as far as i can see, you have problems with assosicating with tamils.

[i.e. you keep avoiding my question that i asked numerous times: Do you have problems with assosiating with Tamils? Do you have anyone to call your friend whos also Tamil... ]

You know, as well as me, Tamils and Singaleese united sri lanka is a fairytown. It aint going to happen. There is no point trying to convince some shitty asshole whose preception in life is to post and post comments on this forum. Seriously! 4,486 posts and counting? What are you, a robot? No mate, evidently its you who needs a life. Get some fresh air... oh shit i forgot, that is very rare in SL isnt it... well, thats just tough.

You're 23 years old, joined this forum in september 2006, and have a post count of almost 9 per day. Thats just sad man. I don't know about you but thats not the way I want to head my life in. I'm going out. I suggest you do the same.

btw: i havent read the comments you just made. you can just roll all of it and then suffle it into your fat ass. maybe then you'll realise that you're infact bisectual (or better yet homosectual)

Again, with full respect to the "senior member", get a life mate. Consider it as an advice. You never know. Tomorrow you may wake up to thank me.

This is probably the last comment that I make in this thread. Not because I'm scared but because, unlike some people here, I have a life! Bann me if must. Wankers!

    hehe...

I saw in one of your posts, you've mentioned that you are following a Postgraduate degree (Meng;= Master of Engineering) in a precious university in UK.

I wonder how you follow a postgraduate degree without graduating. So I can assume that you are a person living a dream world. So no point of arguing with you about other isses you pointed out. Its a waste of time.

But for your information about the university of Colombo I would like to state this; go through it if you really got a brain. Otherwise just leave this site without disturbing to its peace. And also pls note that its just only a single example there are thousands... :P

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sarath_Gunapala

Dr. Gunapala set his mind on being an astronomer or space scientist when he was a schoolboy, being motivated by a lecture given by veteran scientist Prof. Cyril Ponnamperuma and articles that appeared in Nawayugaya magazine. He received his primary & secondary education at Nalanda College colombo, and entered the University of Colombo in 1975 and passed his special degree in physics with a first class in 1979. After a short period of working as an assistant lecturer at the same university, he was offered a scholarship to USA for his doctorate. Then he joined Bell Laboratories which was founded by Alexander Grahambell-inventor of the telephone. He worked there as a scientist for seven years. While working for Bell Laboratories, he developed an IR detector which was capable of attracting the minds at NASA. They invited him to work at NASA, something that had been this Sri Lankans dream since he was just a kid. Since then, for the past 15 years, Dr. Gunapala has been working at JPL-NASA.
    [edit]Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL)

There are 5000 scientists out of 10,000 workers at JPL. Among them, there are 30 senior research scientists. Dr. Gunapala is also one of them.

Dr. Gunapala joined the QWIP team as Chief Scientist, to lead the Company's efforts in further development. Dr. Gunapala is the inventor of the bound to quasi-bound QWIP technology developed at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, and is considered a world leader in the area of QWIPs. Dr. Gunapala is a solid-state physicist with 15 years of QWIP experience. Dr. Gunapala has raised industry awareness of QWIP around the world through workshops and written material, and is the author of over 150 publications as well as numerous inventions and patents surrounding the infrared technology.

    QWIP technology

"This technology will revolutionize the way we develop new remote sensing instruments," said team leader Dr. Sarath Gunapala and added; "As a result of all our research work in last decade, QWIP technology has culminated as the most favorable highly sensitive multi-band large format focal plane array technology in long-wavelength infrared region. "

Dr. Gunapala has introduced to the world, the "640x512 PixZls Long-Wavelength Infrared (LWIR) Quantum Dot Infrared Photodetector (QDIP) Focal Plane Array Camera".

Actually, I'm on MEng course. There is a little difference between BEng and MEng starting from 2nd year at my uni (I don't know if thats the same in SL :S). So if for some reason you're on BEng during 2nd year, you will only get BEng degree at the end (But of course, you can get some experience, come back and do MEng if thats what you want). I'm on MEng so at the end of my student life, I'd graduate as MEng... I won't get BEng degree in the end of 3rd year. Thats what I was refering to.

lol and regarding your Dr. Gunapala article. Score man! If a guy with marely 1/2 page of wikipedia is your preception of Sri Lankan Einstein the be it.
