Lampard signs five-year Chelsea contract
LONDON, England (AP) -- England midfielder Frank Lampard has ended speculation over his future by signing a new five-year contract with Premier League Chelsea.
Lampard will remain at Stamford Bridge for the next five years after signing a new contract with Chelsea.
Lampard had just one year left on his previous agreement and British media have been reporting for months that he was considering a move to either Italy or Spain because he was unhappy with the offer Chelsea had made him.
Inter Milan, who are coached by former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, was rumored to be his most likely destination, but Lampard has decided to extend his seven-year stay with the Blues.
"I've just turned 30 and I see it as my final big contract and I will play out my days at Chelsea," Lampard said.
"It's been a difficult summer for many reasons and that was one of the frustrating things, a lot of things were said that were untrue, some things were said that were slightly true and that was frustrating. Now we can put that to bed and concentrate on football," he added.
