that what happens when you go after a country who is having the money and also have invested in your country .. Mind you its the only country who has money to offer. india took 60 billion usd projects from china in year 2015 . What we did we blamed them you need to understand consquenses of what you are doing.. They stopped all the projects inculding major once and now they are asking for penaulties as well. Hambantota project was a huge plan to make in to a huge industrial and international event zone.. But only few was build they first started building airportss and harbour . To built a harbour was thought in early as 1980's but nobody did .. This route have most vessels but not marketed properly.. Our debt is increasing in rupee terms hugely due to devaluation of the ruppee . In 1976. 1USD was 8.50 LKR. Just as economy got opend it went upto 16 in one day in 1978... In 1990 1 dollar was at LKR 40. In 1994 it was 50. 25% upwas seen in just 4 years

In last 1 and half years it been 15%. We felt apart due to 88/89 lot of businees lost their contracts and got wiped out from their markets so production plants went down .. Thats why we are here ...

You cant blame mahinda for taking loans cause nobody left him even a single ruppee to spend .. He got an empty treasurey. They gave him the country After selling sathosa (sathosa buyer took a loan from. Boc to buy it with political supprt. And that loan was not payed back) air lanka. Sri lanka insurance, gas and even sold half of petrolium units. If. Anybody before mahinda had saved single ruppee to spend to build all he does including even clean roads in colombo (now all the plants are brown no watering)you can argue for taking loans..

He managed a war and development better than evryone thought.. He choose the right friends with money .. Thats how he built it.. He manage to built these while crude oil barrel was at 140+ . If now we had same price then this government not have any options.

Only thing is how suddenly these people from last year felt they cant pay back? Cause they did not get money ruppee got devalued loan payment went larger. N larger ... But major issue was taken place in 88/89 our country lost major industies due to jvp buggers our businessmen lost contracts with foreign parties factories got closed thats why we are here: Last thin is choose the right people to be friends and when they help not bite them cause they gonna bite you back everybody has a limit ..

July 31, Colombo: The debt/equity swap on the Chinese loans taken by the previous government will be implemented in accordance with the discussions Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe had with the Chinese President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Li Keqiang, the government said rejecting a media report that said otherwise.

Issuing a statement the Government Information Department said a Sunday Times report that said China has declined Sri Lanka's request to convert into equity Beijing-funded projects including the Mattala Airport and the Hambantota Port was not true.

In accordance with the discussions held on 8th April this year, the Chinese Government will promote Chinese firms interested in entering to private-public partnership with Sri Lanka Government with regard to the specific project, the statement said.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Management (CCEM) has instructed Minister of Development Strategy and International Trade and Minister of Special Assignment to discuss the required modalities with the Chinese Ambassador and report back to the Government. The discussions have been finalized and report is to be submitted.

Following the discussions on Friday, a meeting was held in Hambantota by the two Ministers with the Chinese Ambassador and interested Chinese firms on the proposals for Mattala Airport, Hambantota Port, Tourism Zone, Oil Refinery, a Dock Yard, a LNG power plant and industrial parks. These will come under the public-private partnership between Sri Lanka Government and investors.

The Government Information Department has charged that a part of the English print media has distorted the facts with regard to these transactions in order to disrupt the economic development of Sri Lanka.

Government sector is good for people who willing tostay lazy and people who having an attitude erning money by doing nothing. since when i was kid i would neved whish to be a government worker in any sector.

Even now I'm bored in the job I'm doing because, I don't have much work to do.

no of course not. gota is good for urbun planing and maintaining it.but when its come to econimy gota wont be able to handle since he got no proper education in econimy and politics . but he proved his skills when he was serving as a secretary of defense and handling urban planing. But for politics and economics he need to learn more. I hear many of rajapakse's supporters suggesting Gota as next replacement for mahinda rajapakse though currently suggesing is based on popularity not maturity in politics .so that is won't be a good idea for future of country and rajapakse regime as well .
