cod4 directx error

i installed call of duty 2.but when i am trying to play the game my system is telling that there is an unrecoverable direct x error.then i tried to install direct x9 then they are telling that i have already installed direct x9 to my PC do anyone know the reason for this?these are my system specifications<this problem is about call of duty 2 not call of duty 4>

vga-256mb

mayb your GPU isn't powerfull enough ! if it's a onboard adapter!
