Construction expenses up by 20% following VAT hike⬆️

Chairman of the National Construction Association of Sri Lanka M.D. Paul said that overall construction expenses have risen by 20%, following the VAT hike which came into effect from the 1st of January, 2024.

He said that the construction industry is facing a grave crisis, due to the inclusion of fuel to the list of items to which the VAT is applicable.

He added that many items such as machinery, electricity, and light bulbs, which were previously on the exempt list, are now applicable for VAT, and that due to this, construction expenses have shot up by 20%.

‘වැට්’ බද්ද ඉහළ යෑමත් සමඟ සිමෙන්ති මිල රුපියල් 150 ත් 350 ත් අතර මුදලකින් ඉහළ දැමූ බව සිමෙන්ති නිෂ්පාදන සමාගම් පවසනවා.

මෙම මිල ඉහළ දැමීමත් සමඟ ඇතැම් සිමෙන්ති සමාගම්වල කිලෝ 50 සිමෙන්ති කොට්ටයක මිල රුපියල් 2,300 ක් දක්වා ද, තවත් සමාගමක සිමෙන්ති කොට්ටයක මිල රුපියල් 2,450 ක් දක්වා ද, ඉහළ දමා තිබෙන බවයි වාර්තා වන්නේ.

බදු ඉහළ දැමීමට පෙර සමාගම් කීපයක සිමෙන්ති කොට්ටයක මිල රුපියල් 1,980 ක පැවැති අතර ඇතැම් සමාගම්වල සිමෙන්ති කොට්ටයක මිල රුපියල් 2,300 ක ද පැවතුණා.

මේ හේතුවෙන් සිමෙන්ති ආශ්‍රිත නිෂ්පාදන රැසක් යළි ඉහළ ගොස් තිබෙන බවද දිවයිනේ විවිධ ප්‍රදේශ වලින් වාර්තා වේ.

ඒ අනුව,රුපියල් 75ට පැවති බ්ලොක් ගලක් රු 85 දක්වා යළි ඉහළට ගොස් ඇති බව ද වාර්තා වේ.
