Dambulla - Ancient Caves

Rice fields in the mountains between Kandy and Dambulla..

Stupa before the entrance...

Entrance to the Ancient World...

Buddha statues in that particular position...

The Cave Temples date from several periods, beginning in the 3rd century BC, and continuing into the 18th century...

The mysterious carved Buddha in Cave 2.The site contains about 150 Buddhas, and many paintings and frescoes...

Cave again....

Fresco-covered walls and Buddha statues create an eerie, other-wordly atmosphere...

but i personally don't like that big buddha stature there .... mama aasa anuradha pure wage galen karapu ewata ......ewaye features maara pleasant thanx

wow dude...nice.....but there is another wonder....the secret cave city of sri lanka some where around anuradapura i think.....like the one in turkey....except this one is supposed to be grander....

pls try to get pictures or an article abt it...i can't seem to find any.....

Nice pics!

Though I personally don't like the Dambulla Lord Buddha statue!

Its UGLY! Doesn't carry that gracefulness of a Buddha statue, more like a rushed work.. you even can see the paint is already peeling off...

I think we must have some sort of standard when creating Buddha statues at least in places like these...
