This is what make me ashamed of being a sri lankan in Elakiri... You have no respect for other members.... I think some are very proud of using filthy language for girls... I think that we have been too used to readymade things... We don't want to learn.. we only want to pass exams, so we attend tution classes which we can get readymade answers for the exam... parents feed us grinded food so we don't have to chew... I think I've started to think being with indians..I had to. Here even little children are very sharp and broad minded.
Actually Neo-indians who are more westernised in thinking, even surpassing westerners. It is said that the best computer programmers of the world are Indians..
Indians are brought up more disciplined and with more independance than us, Sri Lankans. They respect parents and teachers more than we do. To us it is more lip service.
There are very poor schools here taught in English medium..I feel sorry about Sri Lankan students who are still struggling with English.. I know one Sri Lankan Father who was against his clever daughter's admission to the english medium school. Principle begged him but he refuced. That is the mentality of us.
We are one of the very backward country in constant decline. You have to visit another country to see the difference. Whole system is made to make us more and more stupid... I feel so lucky to be here among with people whom I can grow with. Don't misunderstand me as condemning my own country.. but that is truth. As long as we cover our limitations with past glory we will never grow out of our limitations.

so sorry to here .but truth is like this.if you r going to a war , u should be ready get wounded.finding the right person in first shy is not that easy.

trust.this is base for all relationships.it could be a simple friendship.still trust plays a huge role.so u cant reject affairs, because u cant trust anyone anymore.

Your criticism of the general "Sri Lankan" is quite scathing and harsh, but on one side I sadly have to agree. On the other side I have my own reservations to reject your claims, anyway every one is entitled to their own opinion.

Taking India and Sri Lanka, they may be near to each other, but the situation in both countries are totally different from each other. The development India had achieved is not quite spread around the country, there are super richs and on the other side of the road is a slum and abode to some of the poorest on the world. Also the education, culture and social development is totally irregular.

Taking Lanka, it is another case, coz it is a smaller country and less ethnically diverse than the large multi ethnic country India is, had see a level of development which is distributed, I'm not telling you that there are no super richs or super poors in Lanka, but considering the social development and "mentality" (i will exclude the warzone for obvious reasons) Lanka is way above others.

Your example of a father refusing his daughter english medium education is quite unbelievable to me. From what I've seen around in lanka and from the stories I've heard, the general attitude of a lankan towards english education is quite positive. And I strongly believe that teaching in sinhala/tamil medium after independence was a mistake, anyway now that is rectified and everyone has the chance to learn in english.

India might have introduced english medium education since their independence but that led to it schooling only being available to the socially affluent types. And to speak about the english communicating skills of Indians (i'm not trying to poke fun on them, just my opinion about the indians i've encountered) there are indians from andra pradesh(heart land of indian IT) in the place i study, they claim to have studied in english medium since their school days, but their communication skills are pretty null and heavily accented. They tend to stay in their own groups and never even try to come out and talk with others. It's a case of some language problem. We lankans here got no such prob and that had just added up to our prestige.

As long as we cover our limitations with past glory we will never grow out of our limitations.
