The Ministry of Defence under the aegis of Dialog TV has launched a new satellite TV channel dedicated to the war heroes. The launching ceremony of the new TV channel Rana-Ru was held at the Defence Ministry yesterday (February 4).
Additional Secretary Defence Udeni Wikcrmasinghe launched the first telecast at a charm occasion held last evening at the Ministry premises. Speaking to the media Mr. Wickramsinghe said that the TV channel was an idea of President Mahinda Rajapaksa to provide infotainment and morale boost to the those soldiers toiling at the battlefronts.
Speaking further he said the idea came to a reality due to guidance of Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa and to the unstinted support given by the Dialog TV.
The content manager, of Rana-Ru, Major Nilantha Jayaweera told defence.lk, that the channel is operating around the clock, in four sessions of six hour telecasts. The content includes entertainment programs, defence news, educational programs, motivational programs, etc., he added.
As its first program, Rana Ru telecasted the messages of the President, the Prime Minster and the Defence Secretary.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa speaking to the soldiers said that he is waiting to proclaim the victory over the terrorism on the same TV channel in near future. He said that he is delighted as the Commander Chief, that the Defence Ministry could setup a TV channel dedicated to the war heroes at a time that certain media are engaged in recreant campaign to desecrate soldiers' sacrifices.
Prime Minister Rathnasiri Wickramanayake speaking to the soldiers expressed his belief that the new TV channel will stand out among those media institutions supporting terrorism. He said that the TV channel is a national requirement at the moment.
Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa, in his address to the soldiers expressed his pleasure that he could implement the Presidents' idea successfully. He expressed his belief that the new TV channel will be able to strengthen the pride of servicemen and women and also to heightened their moral .He said, at this critical moment of the nation the media should act with responsibility and the new TV channel would be able to provide a good example.
Mr. Nushad Perera, from Dialog TV, Major Nilantha Jayaweera, the content Manager of Rana Ru and media representatives were also present at the occasion.
