    Develops usually write the code, tests and deployment related things like helm chart, docker compose, k8s deployment file.
    DevOps usually maintain the infrastructure such as servers, networking, storage, etc and services like CI/CD, container orchestrators, etc. They help developers with deployments. Usually monitoring is provided by DevOps as well.

    It depends on what you like. You wanna write code, design software and learn about different languages, algorithms and data structures? SE
    If you wanna play around with infrastructure, Linux and that kind of stuff? DevOps
    Not to mention that there are other fields in IT like quality engineering, security, project management.
    My honest opinion is do what you like.

    Easier with infra. Not impossible with SE.

    Don't think that's how it works in companies like Pearson or MIT (now they have a new name iirc). I have some friends in some of those companies.

    There is also like Technical support engineer/ product support engineer. In my company, they do DevOps as well.

    That would probably reflect with the salary as well I guess. 200k - 250k vs 100k ish? This might depend on the company though.
    In Sri Lanka that is ne..
    I am working remotely for an overseas company ;)

    Sysadmins i think get below 100k usually in SL

    DevOps is not actually a role. It is an ideology. So anyone can practice it.

    I think working for a US based company remotely is the best. Time difference is a pain in the ass though.
    It would be nice if it is possible to work independently on our schedule.
