- Optical Image stabilization (Without IS images will look blurry even for the slightest movement of the hand while taking pictures; you have to be extremely steady or use a tripod, especially under low light conditions when shutter speed is slow)
- Optical Zoom
- Lens angle (Wide/regular : Wide angle lens will capture a wider landscape, good for taking group photos)
- High ISO performance (Low light image quality). Most cheap cameras have very poor low light picture quality, looks very grainy. So check some reviews before buying.
- Other not so important, but features worth considering : Video recording quality and features , Macro performance, Picture modes, ISO and Aperture controls, LCD screen size, size and weight, design.
Some of my personal recommendations : Lumix DMC-ZS3 (With HD movie recording), Canon SD 880, SD990.
