We are using 256kb leased line....and have 4 networks.......one is remote network wich is connected through fiber line....and there is around 400 pc's.....

anything that ur gonna use depends a lot on your needs, so does all these PCs need to access the net? do they need only web browsing....? or do they need more???

Some are using internet applications.........Some database applicatins.

using a DNS server will definitly increase your net access speeds. u can use NAT or a proxy to let all ur mashines to access the net.... but it depends on your needs. as this is a large env i think NAT will be better and faster.. now you have to have a nice router in place for this or else there wont be much difference...

i guess some proxy servers can handle this... but it will be less efficient than NAT.. i guess

i really don't know! hehe... and you know what.... may be you can use a open source router solution here. it will be very fast and cheap hehe but still if your NAT is done with ICs it will be much faster than any soft.. cause its wire speed.

and yeah software will be very easy to configure than hardware... i guess

but i really don't know too much about this... i've read the books but no practicals what to do... i can't have a router or two in my house ne!
