but when a user name is changed it doesnt change the id ne? when i changed it on neowin it only changed the user name which is used in posts and when someone go to my profile they can see my user name changes. the login id dosnt change when i change my id...

Yes it is a very few lines of coded SQL query. But it takes a lot of resources to change the name...

So the risk is high immensely to crash the whole database....

Is user name is the primary key? I think there may be a ID column with some sort of neumeric value, otherwise sorry thmai.

True in a way.. But machang too much load for the database I reckon. and the next problem is more people will need to change their IDs as well.. which will deff creat an overhead..

there is a more worse thing, some users are very familier in EK and if these sort of users changes there names that EK will be like a new place, so better not giving this facility

ya ya machang.. It is not impossible in vB as well.. and I think even DigitalPoint had that facility earlier..

But machang the risk is too high... I mean on the DataBase... It might crash coz all the posts and threads and quotes has to be edited accordingly ne...

actually that wont happen machan..
normally in large scale systems they wont refer user names...
they allways use an user ID to query all the user related data from the db...
so only thing have to change is the user master table..
