Come, fall in love. This film is meant for those moments, those tender joys of Summer of 21when it is easier to succumb to temptation. Come, fall in love with Yash Chopra. All over again. So what if Mujhse Dosti Karoge is only presented by him, his soul pervades the film. At least in the second half when it picks up remarkably from the strictly average fare doled out by debutant director Kunal Kohli.
For all practical purposes, Chopra takes over in the second.
Fall in love with beautiful locales, beautiful people in still more beautiful clothes, fine music, easy-on-the eye sets. Everything lush and lovely. Cinema with no pretension to sobriety, cinema you can watch with your family without needing to look the other way every now and then. It is modern-day cinema with emotions that skim the surface, yet packaged beautifully. Not always gripping, it still keeps the viewers occupied right till the final denouement of this one man-two women tale. If you are looking for a new angle to the age-old love triangle, you will be disappointed. If you are looking for pleasant, if predictable cinema, you won't mind it.
At its best, this film is delectable. And young. Too bad if you left the 'Summer of 21' 20 years back. Never mind. Close your eyes, smile.
Nostalgia can be uplifting. So what if the joys in this synthetic love entertainer are not profound enough; so are the sorrows. Just like emotions in the autumn of life. Savor it.
