LOS ANGELES--After years of hints and tech-demo teases, the Crysis series is finally headed to consoles. This morning, Electronic Arts and German developer Crytek announced the development of Crysis 2 for the PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3. The game will be the first console title that the notoriously PC-centric studio will develop directly for consoles, having let Ubisoft develop the console spin-offs for its groundbreaking 2004 first-person shooter Far Cry. Ubisoft bought the Far Cry IP outright in 2006. No release date was given.
"The development of Crysis 2 marks a major stepping stone for our studio," said Crytek CEO and President Cevat Yerli in a statement. "This is not only the next game in the Crysis franchise, it's the first title we are developing for consoles and the first title being built on CryEngine 3." In March, the CryEngine3 was shown off on the 360 and PS3 to Game Developers Conference attendees.

Left For Dead 2
Trailer
LOS ANGELES--Last week, Valve offered a brief teaser announcement that it would be party to the 2009 Electronic Entertainment Expo, sparking waves of speculation as to what, exactly, the Half-Life 2 maker would have on hand to show. As part of Microsoft's E3 press conference today, the answer to that question surfaced when the publisher showed the first trailer for Left 4 Dead 2.
According to the brief trailer shown among a litany of other games arriving exclusively for Microsoft's platforms, Left 4 Dead 2 is expected to arrive on the Xbox 360 and PC on November 17. The brief trailer also showed survivors battling hordes zombies on a bridge, featuring the new chainsaw weapon.

Metal Gear Solid: Rising
LOS ANGELES--Today at Microsoft's E3 Press Conference, one of the biggest news items was the announcement of Metal Gear Solid: Rising for the Xbox 360. As teased by designer Hideo Kojima at his Game Developers Conference keynote, the all-new title will star Raiden, the acrobatic supporting character of Metal Gear Solid 4 and star of Metal Gear Solid 2.
However, no sooner was the game revealed than confusion set in about what platforms it was being released for. It was revealed during the portion of the Microsoft press conference which corporate vice president John Schappert said was reserved for Xbox 360 console exclusives. However, the product page on Games Press--the UK-based press-release service relied upon by much of the games industry--is listing the game as coming to the PC and PlayStation 3 with a "TBA" launch date.
Halo: Reach
LOS ANGELES--When Bungie left Microsoft, the developer expressed an interest in expanding its horizons beyond the Halo universe. Despite that, the developer will be returning to its signature series at least once more, as Microsoft today revealed the Bungie-developed Halo Reach during its 2009 Electronic Entertainment Expo media briefing.
The game was announced with a teaser trailer at the end of a segment dedicated to this year's Halo: ODST, which will arrive with an all-new co-op mode on September 22. The trailer showed a planet--ostensibly Reach, the planet where Spartans are trained--with a variety of radio chatter in the background. The radio chatter grows appropriately panicked as the planet is apparently "glassed"--or bombarded with plasma weapons--by the Covenant.
The trailer concluded with a notice that Reach falls in 2010. After the trailer, a Bungie representative announced that gamers who purchase Halo: ODST will be able to access the Halo Reach multiplayer beta on Xbox Live Arcade.

Forza Motor Sport 3
LOS ANGELES--As far back as June 2008, speculation has abounded that Microsoft and Turn 10 were prepping a new installment in the Forza hyper-realistic racing franchise. In May, rumors that Microsoft would use its 2009 Electronic Entertainment Expo press conference to debut the new racer surfaced. Today, those rumors can be put to bed, as Microsoft dedicated a significant portion of its press event to detail Forza Motorsport 3, which will ship exclusively for the Xbox 360 this October.
As part of the demonstration, Turn 10 creative director Dan Greenwalt showed off a demo of the game. The demo first shows a number of vehicles flying around a mountain racing track, a precarious location given that one of the vehicles suddenly flips and rolls.
According to Greenwalt, Forza 3 will feature graphics running at 60 frames per second. The game will also include some 400 vehicles from a variety of manufacturers. Greenwalt also noted that player-generated content will be featured front and center in Forza 3, showing off artwork that has been uploaded by professional artists. The game will also allow players to upload high-definition video, with a dedicated video editor built in as well
