I've heard it is said about this song that it's about drug addiction..
it does seem to be about drug addiction though...
line's like below has meaning..
You can check-out any time you like,
But you can never leave!
..it's akin to addicting..you can get in, but once in you may not get out..
also below..
So I called up the Captain,
"Please bring me my wine"
He said, "We haven't had that spirit here since nineteen sixty nine"
1969 (please look this up) year may have significance..60 apparently ended drug life styles..
most of all below part makes me think this is about addiction..
Mirrors on the ceiling,
The pink champagne on ice
And she said "We are all just prisoners here, of our own device"
--if you are addicted, it indeed is of your own device..
And in the master's chambers,
They gathered for the feast
They stab it with their steely knives,
But they just can't kill the beast
--steely knives may refer to needles..you can keep stabbing at the beast (need for another dose) but you can't quite kill it for good..
I never liked this over-rated song..
oh my.. i thought this song was about a dream, and i asked form one of my friend and he said this is about a prostitute (daFuq) ..
it seems to be he is on Drug or having a good ass sleep and dreaming
