Sinhala residents who fled Eravur in the face of LTTE terror in 1987 are making a fervent appeal for help to return to the area. They want to reclaim their shop buildings and other property as well as facilities for re-settlement.
President of the Eravur Refugees Welfare Association Almis Walgama complained that despite repeated appeals made to successive governments, no action had been taken to redress their grievances. He said that despite having fought for Sinhala rights for over 20 years nothing had been done to redress their grievances.
He said that among their requests is for assistance for rebuilding the Buddhist temple which the LTTE terrorists had destroyed. However these requests have so far fallen on deaf ears. Their latest appeal to President Mahinda Rajapaksa but to date there has been no response.
