  • For Facebook create a bookmark for the login page, or type the URL directly into the browser address bar.
  • Don’t click on links in e-mail messages (for friend requests or any other updates, always log in to facebook directly, you can see all the requests inside Facebook itself).
  • Look for giveaway signs of phishing e-mails:
    • If it’s not addressed to you personally.
    • If you’re not the only recipient.
    • If there are spelling mistakes, poor grammar or syntax or other clumsy use of language.
  • Do not post your email address as plain text on public forums, someone may use this for a phishing attack or some other type of an attack on your account (i.e : freezing)
  • Never share your password with anyone
  • Adjust your privacy settings to match your level of comfort, and review them often
  • Be cautious about posting and sharing personal information, especially information that could be used to identify you or locate you offline, such as your address or telephone number
  • Report users and content that violate our Terms of Use
  • Block and report anyone that sends you unwanted or inappropriate communications

I thought this is a timely post mainly because of the other *Hack Facebook ID* thread in this forum. I don't condone invading privacy of other people; therefore I thought I should let the not so tech savvy people know how to protect themselves against phishing attacks.
