The proposed ferry service between India and Sri Lanka is to strengthen the boat building industry of Sri Lanka. The Indian Union Cabinet has approved the proposal for a passenger ferry service between India and Sri Lanka which would strengthen economic and cultural ties between the two countries. The passenger ferry service will initially be started between Tuticorin and Colombo and subsequently extended to Rameswaram and Thalaimannar.
