ehenam karate gena dannethuwa kollo. kohen hari karate poddak gaagatthata wedak ne e gena awabodhayak nethnam.Machan, I don't know about Karate or any martial art for that matter. However I read on this online thread that most of these so called martial arts fail miserably in real world. The reason given is that most of these artists practice and teach karate, kung fu or whatever din don bo for pure showmanship. If you really want to learn defend yourself you should attend a self defense class or a MMA class (it too is an art but many had argued it being superior to other common M-arts in real world)
Please note this is something I read online

what you read online is, pardon me mate, total bullshit. You learn martial arts not to fight. It's an art. It helps you improve confidence, stay healthy, and stay active. When essential you may put that into use, but such occasions are rare.
MMA is total waste of time if you consider them because it's something for those who want to fight, and fight like dogs. So I call it dog fight.
The reality is: if Karate and Kung Fu fail, ao does MMA, and that too long before the former two.
If we talk about the real world then a gun would outplay all of them. Then that being the case, your choice should be the other uses such as I mentioned above. And there MMA fails mate.
Back alley dog fights are not considered an art, and for that a gun would be better.
By learning the real martial arts like Karate and Kung Fu a person becomes healthy, noble, and civilized. It improves all faculties of a human.MMA doea the opposite. Never market the popular American rivalry against the age old traditional character building arts.

It looks like we are at a deadlock at the grading of MMA. Be as it may, I strongly object to the idea that MMA is the next level. In reality, it's the absence of a level. It's very rare a person masters a single art properly, and the idea of success through a salad is surprising. I learned Kyokushin under Sensei Palitha Galappatthi (and Shihan Nanda Siriwardena) before moving to Shotokan in which I achieved 2nd dan black belt. I hail from Gampola, fyi. There were many sellers of martial arts and even Bruce Lee was sold. (One such seller was a popular actor, you will be able to guess.) In reality the chances you save yourself with MMA is only a fairy tale mate, whoever has mastered a real art like Karate and Kung Fu would do better. It's not mere iyaahoooo... it's about handling a situation the best way. I do not agree that MMA serves better, for if you cannot master a single art completely, you cannot expect a "next level" which includes many. Instead may I say that you get stranded in the middle of nowhere.
Anyway, nice having a decent discussion with you gentlemen rather than another slum fight with filthy words![]()
Well said brother ! yeah and i agree to ur statement about not being able to master Karate and Kung-fu. To master them it may require a whole lifetime. I believe MMA to be a sport and earn livelihood from their skills. I also like the idea of being a fighter who can wrestle like a wrestler, a submission artist by knowledge of ju jitsu, spar like a boxer n muay thai fighter n other skills like judo, karate. in other words on the mat in the ground game, sparring on the feet grappling, kicks and all. not totally perfect in all aspects but improving daily. maybe we have different views and ideas but we agree on one thing and thats the traditional karate, kung fu from the creators is the best form !
