The JVP has alleged that the vehicle of party candidate Sisira Kumara Sarachchandra has been attacked by a UPFA group led by former chief minister Maheepala Herath and his son in Rambukkana.
Mr. Sarachchandra's cab, 57-2218, was damaged in the incident, the JVP said in a statement.
The former CM, with his bodyguards, had gone to the polling booth at Pinnawala Central College, but had been prevented from entering the premises by the police.
The group had then tried to assault the JVP candidate.
The party statement said further that Mr. Herath, certain of defeat, was unleashing violence and engaging in poll malpractices, against which a complaint has been lodged with the Rambukkana Police.
