Middlesbrough 1-2 Crystal Palace: Benteke & Zaha sink Boro

    middlesbrough-crystal-palace-100916_1djgqs7x8rlr810kzn6wsseyg7.jpg

Wilfried Zaha created the opener and scored the winner to inspire Crystal Palace to a 2-1 Premier League victory over Middlesbrough at Riverside Stadium.

Alan Pardew's men were winless heading into Saturday's away game, while Middlesbrough had been unbeaten after three matches.Palace were calling the shots right from the start, though, and did more than enough to bag their first win of the 2016-17 campaign.

Zaha was key for the visitors, setting up Christian Benteke's first-half opener with a sublime cross, before pouncing on a mistake from George Friend after the break to deliver the win.

Daniel Ayala had restored parity in between both Palace goals, finding the net with a superb header after a corner, but Middlesbrough failed to bounce back from going a goal down a second time as they were beaten for the first time this season.

Palace opened the scoring after just 16 minutes when Benteke found the net following a fine cross from Zaha. The winger sent in a diagonal delivery after Middlesbrough had needlessly given away possession and Benteke beat Ayala to the ball as he headed past goalkeeper Victor Valdes. The away side continued to be the more dangerous of the two and Andros Townsend was unfortunate not to double the lead mid-way through the first half.

Zaha danced past two opponents down the right before reaching Benteke with a low cross, who in turn laid it off for Townsend. The winger did not hesitate and fired a shot toward the top corner, only for Valdes to deny him with a sublime save.

Middlesbrough struggled to create much before the break, but managed to level the scoring against the run of play in the 38th minute via Ayala. The centre-back was at fault for Palace's opener as he was outjumped by Benteke, but he made amends with a goal of his own as he headed home the equaliser after a corner from Stewart Downing.

The home side could even have gone 2-1 up in the dying seconds of the first half after Viktor Fischer sent Alvaro Negredo clean through on goal, but Palace shot stopper Steve Mandanda proved to be too much of an obstacle, pushing his shot wide for a corner.

Palace made a strong start to the second half and needed just two minutes to restore their lead through Zaha. Friend failed to adequately deal with James McArthur's throughball and Zaha showed no mercy to pounce on the defender's mistake with a clinical finish from inside the area.

Aitor Karanka's men threatened via long-range strikes from Downing and Ben Gibson, while they had a penalty shout turned down when Scott Dann seemingly handled the ball inside his own area.

Middlesbrough were also fortunate not to concede a third, however, when Dann nearly found the net after a corner from Jason Puncheon as it ended 2-1 for the visitors, with late Palace debuts for Mathieu Flamini and Jonathan Benteke - who replaced his brother Christian.

West Ham 2-4 Watford: Hammers humbled by spectacular Hornets comeback

    west-ham-watford-10092016_1qkbokti8r7qp1633powphh1bk.jpg

West Ham United surged into a two-goal lead at home to Watford, only to spectacularly collapse and lose 4-2 in Saturday's Premier League clash.

It took little over half an hour for Michail Antonio to put the hosts 2-0 up at London Stadium, with Dmitri Payet delivering the corner for the midfielder's first before producing a fantastic rabona assist for the second.

However, their good work was undone when Walter Mazzarri's Watford pegged them back by half time, Jude Ighalo and Troy Deeney getting on the scoresheet in the minutes leading up to the break.

West Ham's humiliation in front of their fans was completed in the second half as Etienne Capoue crashed home a volley and Jose Holebas beat Adrian from distance to seal a magnificent Watford turnaround.

Slaven Bilic's men had been boosted by the return of Payet to the starting line-up for the first time this season and the France playmaker would have given the hosts the lead if not for an instinctive stop by Heurelho Gomes – who had previously denied Antonio.

But Gomes could do nothing to prevent Bilic's side going ahead moments later, Antonio stealing in to nod home from Payet's whipped corner – with the help of a deflection from Deeney.

Matters were almost made worse for Watford soon after, Daryl Janmaat inexplicably turning the ball onto the upright of his own goal before, at the other end, Arthur Masuaku did brilliantly to prevent Ighalo netting from close range.

West Ham continued to control proceedings and had their reward just after the half-hour mark, Payet executing a magnificent rabona cross to the back post, with Antonio on hand to head home his second.

Watford responded well, though, and Mazzarri's side hauled themselves back into the game when Ighalo's strike took a wicked deflection off James Collins – the Nigeria striker's first league goal of the season.

And the visitors' comeback was complete on the stroke of half-time as, after capitalising on a mix-up between Adrian and Collins, Deeney levelled with a precise finish into the top corner.

Watford continued to build momentum after the restart and went ahead after 53 minutes, Capoue thumping a powerful half-volley that Adrian could only turn onto the underside of the crossbar.

West Ham were shell-shocked and Watford wasted no time in taking advantage – Holebas drilling in their fourth from the edge of the area just after the hour mark, though Adrian should have done better with the attempted save. The hosts looked to forge an immediate response, but would have found themselves further behind if not for a fine save from Adrian to deny substitute Isaac Success.

Watford thought they had a fifth soon after, as Stefano Okaka prodded in after getting on the end of Younes Kaboul's knockdown, but the goal was correctly disallowed for offside.

However, that decision mattered little as the visitors held firm to secure the spoils and condemn West Ham to a third league defeat of the campaign.

Arsenal 2-1 Southampton: Late Cazorla penalty gives Gunners three points

    koscielny-celebrates-arsenal-southampton_1rflqljvhowcp12ah5d5ccpg2v.jpg

A late Santi Cazorla penalty saw Arsenal defeat Southampton 2-1 at Emirates Stadium on Saturday, as Arsene Wenger got the better of his former Monaco player Claude Puel.

Last season's runners-up had beaten Watford in fine fashion before the international break, and manager Wenger handed debuts to Shkodran Mustafi and Lucas Perez.Their momentum was initially slowed, though, by a Petr Cech own goal from Dusan Tadic's free-kick.

Although Laurent Koscielny equalised shortly afterwards with a magnificent overhead kick, Arsenal struggled to break the visitors down and Saints goalkeeper Fraser Forster was largely untroubled for much of the second half.

But a late twist saw Jose Fonte penalised for tangling with substitute Olivier Giroud in the penalty area, with Cazorla beating Forster from the spot to snatch all three points.

From the off, it was apparent Southampton were going to take the game to their hosts, and although Arsenal escaped a couple of dangerous early crosses unscathed - Jay Rodriguez squandering the best chance with his head - they were soon behind.

Nathan Redmond skipped past Nacho Monreal, drawing a foul to earn a free-kick in a perfect position on the edge of the area. Tadic curled a good effort over the wall, but Cech touched it onto the crossbar, only for the ball to bounce down and into the net off the goalkeeper.

The home side sought an immediate response, with Theo Walcott nodding over, and soon found it in breath-taking fashion. With Saints defenders twice losing headers from a corner, the ball sat up nicely for Koscielny to smash a bicycle kick beyond Forster's despairing dive.

Boosted by the equaliser, Arsenal swiftly took control of the game, with Puel's men required to make a number of timely interceptions to prevent a second goal before half-time.

It was more of the same after the break, barring a Shane Long strike straight at Cech, and Hector Bellerin flashed a low blast wide when the hosts finally fought through Southampton's resolute back-line.

With 66 minutes gone, Long then missed a glorious opportunity to regain the lead.Tadic's neat back-heel played him in, but the Republic of Ireland forward dinked his finish past the far post.

Alexis Sanchez was similarly wasteful as he ought to have immediately punished Long, collecting Mesut Ozil's pass on the turn to blaze over with Forster at full stretch.

Long, who had replaced Rodriguez at the interval, headed another opportunity over, before Virgil van Dijk's crucial lunge, following his own error, kept Cazorla's centre from Giroud.

Cech was required to make late saves from Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Long's rebound, before Giroud nodded wide, but the game took another twist in stoppage time when Fonte made contact with Giroud in the area.

Referee Bobby Madley pointed to the spot amid Southampton protestations, and Cazorla, after a lengthy wait for Koscielny to receive treatment, stepped up to drill the penalty into the net and clinch the points.

Juventus 3-1 Sassuolo: Higuain hits brace to send Bianconeri soaring

    higuain-pjanic-juventus-sassuolo-serie-a_1x6nq5iehxafi15mrddr2jrjvg.jpg

Gonzalo Higuain continued his fine start to life in Juventus as his first-half brace was crucial to their 3-1 Serie A victory over Sassuolo on Saturday. The Argentine, signed for a massive €94 million in the summer, proved his worth in front of the Turin faithful once more.

Last season's Capocannoniere opened the scoring with a low drive beyond Sassuolo custodian Andrea Consigli, before he met Sami Khedira's flick with an acrobatic finish full of power.

Fellow new signing Miralem Pjanic joined Higuain on the scoresheet when he headed against the bar and then was fastest to the rebound, putting Juventus in cruise control despite Luca Antei's consolation goal.

Massimiliano Allegri's side can now turn their attention to a big week that will see them play Sevilla in the Champions League before taking on rivals Inter at San Siro.

Gianluigi Buffon got down sharply to make an early save from Matteo Politano, an intervention which was made all the more important by Higuain's rampant start.
In the fourth minute, Higuain latched on to strike partner Paulo Dybala's pass to cap a fast break with a low finish into the far corner.

Higuain soon had his second when he pounced on Khedira's header and smashed in a superb volley from 12 yards out.Leonardo Bonucci - returning to the Juve side as part of four changes from Allegri - headed narrowly wide from Dybala's corner as the hosts threatened to run riot.

A third goal did arrive in the 27th minute when Pjanic directed an excellent header off the crossbar following Stephan Lichtsteiner's cross before reacting fastest to find the top corner from the rebound.

Sassuolo got one back six minutes later when Buffon and Alex Sandro both failed to clear Francesco Magnanelli's corner, allowing Antei to fortuitously convert from close range.Khedira was looking to score for the third straight Serie A game and he tested Consigli from long range early in the second half.

Consgili then made a great stop to deny Pjanic a second as the midfielder collected Dybala's pass and bore down on goal, before Alex Sandro was not far away with his effort after collecting the rebound.

Dybala had a shot of his own saved, Giorgio Chiellini headed just off-target and Consigli denied Lichtsteiner while Higuain had two efforts blocked as he sought a hat-trick, with a fourth Juve goal continuing to look more likely than a second for the visitors.

Juve closed out a routine victory by withdrawing Higuain, Khedira and Dybala, with Sassuolo struggling in attack in the absence of injured talisman Domenico Berardi.

Indeed, they did not produce a second-half shot on target until the 88th minute when Lichtsteiner raced back to clear Politano's strike off the line and end any hopes of a late comeback.

Liverpool 4-1 Leicester City: Champions humbled at Anfield

    liverpool-leicester-100916_1pjwei5mnwrwe1rr21y8bwcsbz.jpg

Roberto Firmino scored twice, while Sadio Mane and Adam Lallana were also on target as Liverpool started life at a redeveloped Anfield with a classy 4-1 win over Leicester City on Saturday.

The Reds were playing their first Premier League home match of the season due to the work undertaken on the main stand, and Firmino brought the Anfield faithful to their feet with a cool 13th-minute opener.

Liverpool were unplayable at times and a stylish move resulted in Mane doubling their lead, only for a Lucas Leiva - deputising in defence for the injured Dejan Lovren - gaffe to tee up Jamie Vardy to half the arrears before the break.

It ultimately mattered little as a Lallana thunderbolt in the 56th minute extended the lead of Jurgen Klopp's side, with Firmino's second following a swift break completing the rout with one minute remaining.

Liverpool were one of just two teams to beat Leicester in their stunning title triumph last term and they now have six days to prepare for Friday's fixture with Chelsea, while the Foxes will attempt to return to winning ways in their Champions League opener at Club Brugge on Wednesday.

The home side gained an early foothold and deservedly moved in front when James Milner's pinpoint through ball was gathered by Firmino, whose excellent first touch took Robert Huth out of the equation and he calmly rolled his shot into the bottom left-hand corner.

The hosts were playing slick football and after Daniel Sturridge was thwarted from eight yards by a brilliant Kasper Schmeichel save, Liverpool's pressure told in the 31st minute.

Sturridge raced onto Jordan Henderson's excellent pass over the top and produced a clever backheel to pick out the supporting Mane, who made it eight goals in as many top-flight appearances with a dinked effort that was just too strong for Schmeichel's palm.

But Leicester were back in it before the break thanks to a gift from Lucas.
The Brazilian panicked under pressure from Shinji Okazaki and his pass towards Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet went straight to Vardy, who gleefully accepted the open goal.

Huth looped a header onto the crossbar from a long throw courtesy of substitute Luis Hernandez, who replaced the injured Danny Simpson after 34 minutes, as Leicester finished the half strongly.

The introduction of Ahmed Musa at half-time saw Claudio Ranieri's team press Liverpool high up the pitch, and the two-goal cushion was restored in some style.Mane pounced on Sturridge's deflected pass and held up the ball in the area before teeing up Lallana, whose stunning first-time effort rifled into the top-left corner.

At the other end, Mignolet - who finished the match with cotton wool up his nose and a plaster near his eye to mop up blood following a physical afternoon - was alert to prevent Vardy making it four goals in his past two appearances versus Liverpool with a smart one-on-one save with his legs.

Vardy continued to threaten for Leicester, but a late Liverpool break resulted in Mane beating the onrushing Schmeichel to the ball 40 yards from his goal before squaring for Firmino to side-foot into the unguarded goal.

RB Leipzig 1-0 Borussia Dortmund: Plucky hosts take down Tuchel's troops

    naby-keita-rb-leipzig-borussia-dortmund_1livyyjonocu12j4oukvjkuw1.jpg

Debutants Oliver Burke and Naby Keita combined to earn RB Leipzig their maiden Bundesliga win as they stunned Borussia Dortmund 1-0 at the Red Bull Arena.

Thomas Tuchel's side travelled to Red Bull Arena looking to build on their opening day Bundesliga victory over Mainz but were largely kept at bay by their hosts in a wide open encounter.

The best chances of the match fell to summer arrival Andre Schurrle, but the ex-Chelsea man squandered his opportunities in both the first and second halves.

Dortmund's wastefulness in front of goal cost them defeat as Leipzig had chances of their own, with Raphael Guerreiro required to clear of the line near the end before Keita struck a deserved winner.

Champions Bayern Munich won at Schalke on Friday, but last season's runners-up could not keep pace, falling three points behind after two rounds of the 2016-17 league campaign.

A number of visiting fans missed the game in protest at Leipzig's Red Bull ownership, and the home supporters undoubtedly left the happier.

Making his second debut for the club, Mario Gotze won an early free-kick on the left and the resulting neat move saw Schurrle's shot deflected wide of the near post.As Dortmund toiled in the early stages, their next chance was also directed off target, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang dangling a leg at a cross.

And the first save of the game had to be made at the other end by Roman Burki, when Dominik Kaiser teed up Werner to thump into the goalkeeper's hands.

On the half-hour mark, the visitors belatedly forged a first clear sight of goal, but, after a neat move ending with Gotze's lay-off, Schurrle whipped his finish beyond the post from the edge of the area.

Both teams resorted to strikes from distance as the first half drew to a close, with Leipzig enjoying a number of unsuccessful forward forays.

Understandably disappointed by their efforts before the break, Dortmund came back out in determined fashion, but the hosts' physical approach continued to nullify their attacking threat.

With just over 20 minutes remaining, and chances at a premium at either end, Burke, Leipzig's big-money buy from Nottingham Forest, was introduced for his debut in the hope of stealing all three point.

He was immediately joined on the field by Dortmund's own young talent Ousmane Dembele, who had an immediate impact in creating crossing opportunities for his team-mates that were again squandered.Werner was now getting joy on the right, though, first firing into the side-netting, before being freed by Burke to bring a fine stop from Burki.

From the subsequent corner, Leipzig came closer still, with Raphael Guerreiro clearing Halstenberg's header off the line.Dortmund looked certain to win the game in the final stages as Schurrle bore down on goal, but his finish was high and clipped the crossbar on its way over.

And, in quite stunning fashion, Leipzig stole victory. Burke crossed from the right for fellow substitute Keita to ram his finish into the roof of the net.

Barcelona 1-2 Alaves: Hosts fall to shock defeat

    neymar-barcelona-alaves-10092016_15x1bwgbn5bir17wcbugqb6hbh.jpg

Ibai Gomez's brilliant solo strike secured a surprise 2-1 victory for promoted Deportivo Alaves as they overcame LaLiga champions Barcelona at Camp Nou.

In the first league encounter between the two sides since 2005-06, Mauricio Pellegrino's side were fantastic throughout, defending stoically before Deyverson's close-range strike put them ahead prior to half-time.

Barca finally made their domination pay after the interval, though, Jeremy Mathieu heading home the leveller after meeting Neymar's precise corner.

Mathieu squandered a golden opportunity moments later and, after having a goal ruled out for offside, Alaves restored their advantage when former Athletic Bilbao winger Gomez took advantage of slack Barca defending to drill home following a fantastic run.

With Real Madrid having made it three wins from three with victory over Osasuna earlier on Saturday, Luis Enrique's side piled on the pressure, but Alaves held firm to secure a famous victory and extend their unbeaten start to the season.Barca were boosted by the return of Neymar after the Brazil forward led his nation to Olympic gold, though – most likely with an eye towards Tuesday's Champions League tie with Celtic – Luis Enrique elected to rest both Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez, instead handing a debut to Paco Alcacer.

But it was the visitors who were the first to have an attempt on goal, Jasper Cillessen, making his debut in the absence of Marc-Andre ter Stegen, equal to a well-struck drive from Gomez.

Fernando Pacheco was called into action for the first time on the half-hour mark, making an excellent save in order to tip Aleix Vidal's rasping effort onto the crossbar following a well-worked Barca free-kick.

In spite of Barca's possession, though, it was Alaves who took a shock lead when Deyverson latched onto a terrific cross from Kiko Femenia and tapped home past Cillessen.

Barca were shocked, but almost produced an immediate response when Neymar got onto the end of looping cross, only to head wide of a gaping goal, before Ivan Rakitic fired over from close-range on the stroke of half-time.

However, Barca wasted no time in restoring parity after the restart, the unmarked Mathieu rising highest to connect with Neymar's whipped corner and heading in past Pacheco.

Mathieu should have doubled his and Barca's tally moments later, but the France defender's effort was instead an early candidate for miss of the season, as he somehow thumped wide from six-yards out.

Alaves thought they had snatched a second when Edgar Mendes volleyed home, only for the strike to be correctly disallowed for offside, before Alcacer flashed an effort wide at the other end.Luis Enrique decided to bring on the cavalry after the hour-mark, introducing both Messi and Andres Iniesta into the fray.

But they had little time on the pitch before Barca found themselves behind once more, Gomez weaving his way into the area before firing a low finish into the bottom corner.

And despite a late onslaught, including Messi's agonising injury-time miss, Barca could not muster a comeback as they slumped to a shock defeat, their first to Alaves since February 2000, and lost early ground on league-leaders Madrid.

Mustafi: Arsenal concentration responsible for Southampton win

    mustafi-cropped_4yl3eegbujdi1549vo5sd1uce.jpg

Shkodran Mustafi praised Arsenal's concentration and never-say-die attitude as they beat Southampton 2-1 at the Emirates Stadium on his debut.

The Germany international made a big-money move from Valencia last week, but his new side fell behind to a Petr Cech own goal in the first half on Saturday.

However, Mustafi was delighted to see Arsenal fight back and earn all three points with Laurent Koscielny equalising and Santi Cazorla netting a penalty in the final seconds of stoppage time.

"If you don't concentrate for 90 minutes, you lose points," he told reporters after the match. "So we concentrated and we were in the game until the end, and that's what gave us the win."

And Mustafi added that winning the game meant more to him than making his Arsenal bow, although he appreciates the reception he has been afforded in north London.

"I'm happy for the three points, first of all," he added. "But I'm also happy with how the supporters have received me here and how the team have made me feel part of it."

Mustafi played the full 90 minutes, while fellow debutant Lucas Perez was withdrawn in the second half for Olivier Giroud.

Barcelona 1-2 Alaves: Hosts fall to shock defeat

When you wake up at 4am after a bad day and see this :D I'm really happy to see the path Zidane is taking with Real now :) Less Galatico signings and more focusing on the castilla players & the bench we've got. It does great things to the team and vuilds up confidence.
And really happy with the bech we've got. Yeah James should deserve more game time and so should Isco and they'll have their chance in the upcomg busy schedule but our bench is much more dependable than barcelonas.

Just look at what happened vs Alaves
Their defence is terrible without Pique at back. I may don't like him but he's a good defender. Looks like alaves will try to stay in the liga this year around. They held atleti at calderon. I watched the match and atleti were really poor but alaves deserved that draw. And now at barca.
Hope won't happen at Bernabeu :D

Klopp declares Liverpool 'can be really strong' after Leicester triumph

    jurgen-klopp-cropped_180pfxzzexsnq11hxpbukz4w5a.jpg

Jurgen Klopp believes Liverpool demonstrated their potential by demolishing reigning champions Leicester City 4-1 at the new-look Anfield.

A Roberto Firmino brace and goals from Sadio Mane and Adam Lallana secured a comprehensive victory for the Reds against Claudio Ranieri's title-holders, who could only manage a solitary reply from Jamie Vardy.

Liverpool have been somewhat inconsistent early in the 2016-17 campaign but served notice of their ability by taking apart last season's surprise Premier League winners.

"At the end it was a great performance over 90 minutes. I thought it was a good challenge for us today because I know we can be really strong," Klopp told BT Sport.

"If something does not work we have to show we can stay in the race, and believe in our style. We played calm football, but we can't create with each pass, each movement.

"Leicester have big quality, are always a threat, even after we scored our third. It was a good performance in a wonderful place," he added, referring to the opening of Anfield's new main stand, increasing the venue's capacity to approximately 54,000.

"It's a wonderful place to play - the old Anfield was also, but it was time to give more people the opportunity to watch our games. I'm happy they can do this. The noise can change games in both directions, it was wonderful that they could."

Klopp was relieved Lucas Leiva, nominally a holding midfielder, survived a difficult assignment at centre-back after making a dreadful error to gift Vardy the visitors' only goal."We had to throw him in cold water, he wasn't really ready for 90 minutes," he said.

"The plan was he would be on the bench but after training we knew he would have to play. Especially against Jamie Vardy, with his over-the-shoulder game, it is very difficult to play."

Ranieri: We have to clear our minds for the Champions League

    ranieri_8pniwz2z3ybb164inp2yrypif.jpg

Claudio Ranieri has admitted Leicester City must clear their minds ahead of their Champions League debut after suffering a 4-1 thrashing at the hands of Liverpool.

Jamie Vardy's fortuitous goal just before half-time, gifted to the England striker by a loose Lucas Leiva pass, meant little thanks to efforts from Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Adam Lallana.

The defeat is the second of the season for the reigning Premier League champions, leaving them in 15th place with just four points from their opening four games. Ranieri's men now travel to play Club Brugge in their first ever Champions League game on Wednesday and the Italian says the competition offers his side an opportunity to bounce back.

"We have to clear our minds for the next match," he told BBC Sport. "When we have lost in the past, we have always had a good reaction.

Danny Simpson was forced to withdraw in the first half through injury and Ranieri said he will find out tomorrow if the defender will be fit enough to line up against Club Brugge. The Italian accepted Jurgen Klopp's men were worthy winners on the back of a dominant display at Anfield.

"Liverpool deserved to win," he told BT Sport. "It was their first match at home.We were waiting for this kind of football, very aggressive and with great spirit."We were OK for the first ten minutes until they scored a goal but after that we lost everything.

"We are always compact, reactive, but we lost the first ball, the second ball. They were unstoppable today."

Diego Costa must control his temper, admits Conte

    diego-costa-premier-league-chelsea-burnley-270816_1lys4dmgvgrdm1pyam94vdtpcj.jpg

Diego Costa has been advised by Antonio Conte to control his passion on the pitch so he can avoid suspensions for dissent or off-the ball incidents as Premier League teams attempt to target him.

The 27-year-old has already picked up two yellow cards for dissent in his first three games this season and Conte is worried he will end up losing the striker to suspensions.

The warning and talks between manager and striker come as Chelsea prepare for an away trip to Swansea City, who they failed to beat in the Premier League last season.

"Diego is a passionate man and for this reason sometimes he risks a yellow card," Conte told a press conference. "I want to improve this aspect because I want to have Diego Costa in all the games. Diego knows the situation."He must transfer his emotion on the pitch in the right way, he is a good guy. He is a player who is very important for the team. Transfer your passion in the right way, it is good for me."

Costa scored last-minute winners in Chelsea's first two games this season and Conte was pleased to see him continue his club form with Spain after earning a recall.

"I watched the game and he played a good game against Belgium, against Liechtenstein," Conte added. "But it is normal when you are a forward and you score a goal. You have a fantastic performance."When you play well and you don’t score, the performance is not good. Diego is a player who in every game puts all of himself into the game and I appreciate this a lot.

"I like when the player shows their passion for this sport. It is fantastic, I think we do this work, for us it isn’t work, it is a passion. It is important to transfer this to the fans and people who watch the game. For us, it isn’t work, for me it is a great passion."

Kane: I'll reach 100 goals even quicker

Tottenham star Harry Kane has set his sights on netting his next 50 Premier League goals for the club even quicker than his first half-century.The England international opened his account for the season with a tap-in in his side's 4-0 thrashing of Stoke City on Saturday. It took Kane 90 appearances to net 50 league goals for Spurs, and he wants to better that to get to 100.

"A couple of years ago, if someone would have said to me, 'you'll have 50 Premier League goals for Spurs' I would have taken that quite happily," the 23-year-old told the club's website. "It's a great achievement and makes me even hungrier to get to that next mark."I'll keep working hard, try to keep scoring and make those landmarks as we go along. I want to score goals for Spurs and the more the better.

"Fifty in the Premier League is a great achievement and here's to the next 50, preferably even quicker."Kane struck in the 70th minute after a cross from Son Heung-min, who had earlier netted a double.

The striker joked he was thankful to Eric Dier after the midfielder tried to get on the end of Son's ball."Those are the best goals. As a striker you wait for those chances and Eric Dier doesn't need to score them," Kane said.

"Thankfully, I saw it early and that helped, I knew I had time to control it and finish. I'm happy to score, every time is a great feeling and right in front of our fans. I'm delighted."

Ibrahimovic: Give Rashford time and he'll take over everything

Manchester United youngster Marcus Rashford will "take over everything", team-mate Zlatan Ibrahimovic has predicted.

Rashford made a lively impact as a substitute in his side's 2-1 home defeat to Manchester City on Saturday and was only denied an equaliser in the second half when his low shot deflected in off Ibrahimovic, who was offside.

The 18-year-old has enjoyed a stunning 2016 since scoring twice on his debut against FC Midtjylland, netting five goals in just four Premier League starts last season - including the winner in the Manchester derby in March - before a debut strike for England earned him a place at Euro 2016.

Rashford has struggled for a starting spot under Jose Mourinho since the arrival of Ibrahimovic, but he scored a stoppage-time winner against Hull City last month before linking up with the England Under-21 side, for whom he hit a hat-trick in their 6-1 thrashing of Norway. And Ibrahimovic has backed his young team-mate to become a leading light on the global stage, provided he is allowed the time to develop.

"First of all, he's 18, he's still young. He has a lot of time," the former Sweden captain told MUTV. "I think the way you have to approach a player like that, where everyone is talking about the talent and what he's able to do and what kind of potential he has, is to remember he still has a lot of time."It's not like he needs to take over the world today, the club knows that, the coach knows that and the team knows that.

"We know his quality and what he's able to do. What the world is seeing now, we already know because we see it every day. There is no need to rush to push him and put him in the heat zone and put a lot of pressure on him because that can have the opposite effect."Time by time, he will take over everything. It's about having patience."

Mourinho has highlighted Ibrahimovic as a key role model for the young players at Old Trafford, but the 34-year-old believes they would flourish without him."I'll help him every day, him and all the others, in any way I can. I'm happy it gives an effect but, even if I was not here, they would still do good," he added.
