Man Utd confirm Lukaku deal with Everton

    lukaku-cropped_ntarzfwyct8s16xbntig5x0o9.jpg

Manchester United have confirmed they have reached an agreement with Everton to sign Romelu Lukaku in a blockbuster deal.

Lukaku, 24, will reunite with former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford for a reported £75 million fee.

United had targeted Real Madrid forward Alvaro Morata to help fill the void left by last season's top goalscorer Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who did not have his contract renewed following a serious knee injury suffered in April.

But Mourinho and United have turned to Belgium international Lukaku to try to fix their scoring woes, having only found the back of the net on 54 occasions in the Premier League last term – the lowest tally among the top seven teams.

Although Chelsea made an attempt to lure him back to Stamford Bridge by matching United's bid, the Red Devils confirmed they have reached a deal for Lukaku, who must still agree personal terms and pass a medical.

Lukaku spearheaded Everton to seventh position in 2016-17 with 25 Premier League goals as he finished second behind Golden Boot winner Harry Kane.

The former Chelsea youngster spent a year under Mourinho at Stamford Bridge before he was sold in 2014.Following an initial loan spell at Everton, Lukaku scored 53 Premier League goals for the Toffees and 71 in all competitions.

The former West Brom loanee hit 26 goals in all competitions last season were the most by an Everton player since Gary Lineker's 40-goal haul in 1985-86.Since debuting for Belgium in 2010, the former Anderlecht star has scored 20 goals in 57 international appearances.

Morientes urges Real Madrid not to miss out on Mbappe

    kylian-mbappe-cropped_lft2q0516y781t5k29hgjmehe.jpg

Fernando Morientes has warned Real Madrid another club will snap up Monaco star Kylian Mbappe if they fail to do so.Mbappe, 18, is widely expected to make a record-breaking move during the summer transfer window, with Madrid among those being linked with the forward.

Morientes, who won two La Liga titles and three Champions League crowns with Madrid, says the talented teenager will end up elsewhere if his former club are unable to complete a deal.

"When you talk about these types of figures, it's usually because the player has generated a certain level of expectation. If you don't buy, another will," he told Efe."It's difficult to digest, but when a player is tempted by so many clubs, it's because he has a lot of talent."

Mbappe scored 26 goals in all competitions in 2016-17, with Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal among numerous clubs believed to be interested in his services. It may take a world-record fee to sign the teenager and Morientes says that will put pressure on the France international."He is just a kid, still in the process of maturing," he said."The weight of responsibility will be on his shoulders."

Modric warns Man Utd and Chelsea targets James, Morata: 'It's all downhill after Real Madrid'

    alvaro-morata-cropped_woaydtbog6xn1tvl27arygaur.jpg

Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric has warned team-mates Alvaro Morata and James Rodriguez that leaving the club will be a step down in their careers.

Colombia star James has been heavily linked with a move away from the Santiago Bernabeu after he was left out of Zinedine Zidane's Champions League final squad, with Manchester United and Inter among the reported suitors.

Morata, meanwhile, is said to be a target for United and Chelsea, with a move to the Premier League champions looking more likely given that Jose Mourinho's side have reached an agreement with Everton to sign Romelu Lukaku.

Although Modric would understand team-mates wanting to leave for more regular first-team football, he believes that Madrid remain the pinnacle of any player's career.

"It's certainly not an easy decision to leave Madrid," he told Marca. "When you leave here, nothing is the same. You're at the best club in the world, that's for sure, and from there you can only go down."Everyone will have their reasons. If I continue like this, I will do everything possible to stay, but things in football change fast."

Modric enjoyed one of his best seasons in the Spanish capital in 2016-17, winning La Liga and the Champions League, and he has credited head coach Zidane for keeping the players fit for the crucial matches.

"He knew how to get the most out of every player and that helped us to reach the end of the season in top form," he said."This was different to years gone by, where we sometimes got a little tired at the end. Now, with all the rotations..."Any player who came on did well and helped the team. It was easier to do what Zidane wanted. These were the keys to winning the double."

Madrid became the first team to win the modern Champions League back-to-back when they beat Juventus 4-1 in the final in Cardiff, but Modric would not say the achievement was made sweeter by the fact Barcelona and Lionel Messi have not managed the same success.

"We're only focused on ourselves," he said. "We don't look at other clubs. We want to do things our way, the best that we can, and not worry about everything. It's our way of thinking, our politics."

The Croatia international was questioned by a court in his homeland last month amid accusations of perjury in a case involving former Dinamo Zagreb director Zdravko Mamic. The 31-year-old could face a prison sentence if charged and found guilty but he insists that he has done nothing wrong.

"It's an unpleasant and complicated situation but I have a clear conscience. Now we have to wait for this to end quickly and nothing else," he said."I can't talk more about it, it's not nice, it's complicated, it's something that happened many years ago and, for me, what's going around is very tough. But I've endured many things in my life and I'm sure I will endure this."

Nainggolan will stay at Roma, insists Monchi

    radja-nainggolan-cropped_19dbopslpx1541crf1i5b8z2mz.jpg

Radja Nainggolan will "definitely" stay at Roma as part of the club's plans to build a competitive squad for next season, sporting director Monchi has said.

The Belgium international is a reported target for Inter and Manchester United, with the Premier League club said to be willing to pay around £40 million for the midfielder.

Roma fans have made clear their frustrations around the club's transfer policy, with Mohamed Salah and Leandro Paredes sold and Antonio Rudiger tipped to complete a move to Chelsea.

However, Monchi is adamant that no more first-team players will be moved on and is confident that Roma will have a strong side by the time the transfer window closes at the end of August.

"Nainggolan will definitely stay at Roma," he told a news conference. "The time of selling important players is over. Now we build a team with the options that the market provides.

"One of the objectives we are working on is a winger and we'll try to get that done as quickly as possible. I prefer to wait and bring in the player I really want, rather than to act hastily."Kostas Manolas continues to be linked with a move to Zenit but Monchi does not want the club's defensive options to become any weaker.

"We want one more centre-back, without anyone else leaving," he said. "A team is built not on July 1, but at the end of August. Once the transfer window closes, we'll have a very good squad. We are building a team capable of fighting and being competitive."

However, the former Sevilla director confessed that Roma's pursuit of forward Gregoire Defrel has been complicated by Sassuolo's asking price."We're a long way off," he said. "We are trying for a player with a similar profile to ours, but he is not the only option.

"We had a meeting with Sassuolo but we want to pay the right price. We have no intention of paying over the odds for a player."

'Barcelona move still possible' - Paulinho hopeful after €20m bid rejected

    paulinho-cropped_1a0dwh97juxwj1ar312cl4pe07.jpg

Guangzhou Evergrande Taobao midfielder Paulinho remains confident about the prospect of joining Barcelona in the transfer window. The 28-year-old Brazil international was the subject of a bid from the Catalans that was rejected by the Chinese Super League club.

Paulinho has claimed that Barca's initial offer was €20 million, which is half of the release clause included in his contract, but he believes they could yet return with a new bid that could eventually see him move to Spain.

He told Brazil's Band: "I'm not a hypocrite and I'm a transparent person. I think about Barca. The clause in my contract is €40m and I believe Barca offered €20m and that Guangzhou rejected the offer.

"My agent told me there are new conversations. The majority of players don't ever speak until something happens but I can confirm that the interest is real.

"What I know is that there's a formal offer and the president of Barcelona spoke with the directors, although there wasn't an agreement."It's possible that I will play at Barcelona among a number of star players. I could become part of a club full of stars.

"There will still be conversations. There's the possibility that there will be an agreement between the clubs and if that's what I want, it will happen."Paulinho has scored 10 goals in 23 games for Guangzhou in all competitions this season and is contracted to them until June 2020.

'It is my dream' - Modric airs ambition to retire at Real Madrid

    uefa-team-of-the-year-luka-modric_1xn40s6r38mab1515vpv6b6mbd.jpg

Luka Modric says it is his “dream” to retire as a Real Madrid player after five productive years at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The Croatia international moved to Spain from Tottenham for £30 million in the summer of 2012.After making a slow start to life in La Liga Modric has emerged as a key figure in Madrid, with his creative influence embraced by a succession of managers.

He is now 31 years old, but is contracted through to 2020 and hopes to spend the remainder of his playing days with the Blancos.

Modric told Marca: "I have not thought about it yet but if I continue to work like this and I take care of myself, there are things that I can improve, of course I would like to [retire at Real], it is my dream, but let's see what happens.

“In Madrid the demand is maximum and you have to always be at the top. If you are not, doubts come.“If I keep working on myself, on individual issues, I think I have enough years ahead of me at this level. Because I want to be at this level.

“Where I am now makes me enjoy every day, every training, every game. And I do not want to miss this. I will fight to be here as much as possible. I only have Madrid in my head."

Modric has enjoyed his time in Madrid so much because he has seen regular game time and picked up numerous pieces of silverware. The 2016-17 campaign saw him pass the 200-appearance mark for Real, while delivering a first La Liga title and a third Champions League crown.

Modric, who has also won the Copa del Rey and Club World Cup, added that he is still hungry for more success: “When you win something, once, twice, three times, and you have that feeling, that pushes you forward again. You want to win more, and more and more.“You never tire of winning. We are in a club that always wants to be the best, wants to win everything possible, and the players have the same thought."

Modric signed a new contract with Madrid in October 2016, with Zinedine Zidane eager to ensure that exit talk was avoided by securing the services of a prized asset for the foreseeable future.

:(Rooney arrives at Everton training ground ahead of medical

    wayne-rooney-manchester-united_1458s5jywxlar1mgwlzyfa6te6.jpg

Wayne Rooney has arrived at Everton's training ground to undergo his medical as he closes on a return to his first club.

The Manchester United star and the club's all-time top scorer is set to rejoin the Toffees after 13 years away from Merseyside, where he first shone as a teenage prodigy.

Captain for club and country, the 31-year-old was reduced to a bit-part role under Jose Mourinho at United last season and also lost his place in Gareth Southgate's England squad.

Rooney joined United from Everton for £27m on the back of stunning displays at Euro 2004 and went on to win five Premier League titles, four League Cups and the 2015-16 FA Cup on his way to a personal tally of 253 goals.

He starred as United won their third Champions League in 2007-08, before going on to claim glory in the FIFA Club World Cup. His last act as a United player is likely to be a substitute appearance as they defeated Ajax in last season's Europa League final.

If talks proceed smoothly, Rooney will be Ronald Koeman's sixth signing of a busy close season at Everton, following Michael Keane, Jordan Pickford, Davy Klassen, Sandro Ramirez and Henry Onyekuru to Goodison Park. While he may have lost some of his potency, Rooney is fondly remembered at Goodison Park after bursting on the scene at the tender age of 16 during the 2002-3 season.

The young forward was thrust into the public spotlight five days short of his 17th birthday thanks to a superb strike against Arsenal, and became a first-team regular during that debut campaign for the Toffees. In total Rooney appeared 77 times for his first club in all competitions before United swooped, scoring on 17 occasions.

Meanwhile, Everton striker Romelu Lukaku is set to move in the opposite direction for £75million after United saw off competition from Chelsea for the Belgium international.

Modric: I've never heard Ronaldo say he wants to leave

    luka-modric-cristiano-ronaldo-cropped_r2dddw7p6scn1ucf4ecm7d3wg.jpg

Luka Modric insists he has never heard Cristiano Ronaldo say he wants to leave Real Madrid and is confident that the Portugal star will stay.

Widespread speculation emerged last month over the 32-year-old's future, with local reports claiming he felt let down by a lack of support from Madrid following allegations of tax fraud by Spanish prosecutors.

Ronaldo refused to offer any clues over his future while on international duty with Portugal at the Confederations Cup and it is reported his continued silence over his plans is causing friction with some at the club. However, Modric feels the bond between the club and the former Manchester United star is too strong to be broken.

"I've never heard Cristiano say that he wants to go," Modric told Marca. "In football everything is possible, but I think the connection and the relationship between Madrid and Ronaldo is so strong that I think he will continue to be a Real Madrid player."Another Madrid forward to be linked with a transfer is Gareth Bale, with United credited with an interest in the Wales international.

There are suggestions that the 27-year-old, who struggled with injury problems last season, has failed to integrate himself into the squad and would therefore consider a move.

But Modric, who played alongside Bale at Spurs, does not believe he needs to change his attitude in order to become a success at the Santiago Bernabeu.

"Gareth has always been like that," he said. "At Tottenham as well. It is part of his character. He will do everything for the team and that is the most important thing. He doesn't want to be above the team and is very humble. We're not going to change Gareth, that's the way he is and we have to accept it.

"He has had a very difficult year, with a lot of injuries, but he started the season very well and he was our best player. For him it is important to be healthy and I hope we can see the best Gareth this year."

Man Utd keeper Pereira gets four-year deal

    joel-pereira-cropped_jofimd77izta1d0ba6kxsjysn.jpg

Manchester United goalkeeper Joel Pereira has signed a new four-year contract at Old Trafford, with the option of an additional season. The Portugal Under-21 international's new terms, announced by United on Saturday, will tie him to the club until at least 2021.

Pereira, 21, is Jose Mourinho's number three keeper behind David de Gea and Sergio Romero. He made his Premier League debut against Crystal Palace on the last day of the 2016-17 top-flight season."Joel progressed really well during the course of the last season through hard work and commitment every day in training," said Mourinho.

"I know I have said this before but I really do believe, if he continues his development and continues to work hard, he really can become the best Portuguese goalkeeper of the next generation. Well done Joel."

Pereira, who joined United's youth system in 2012, spent on time on loan at Rochdale in 2015 before having a spell at Portuguese top-flight side Belenenses last season, playing eight league games.

He was recalled to United in January after Sam Johnstone's injury left the number three job open and made his debut as a substitute against Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup fourth round, prior to facing Palace from the start to end the Premier League campaign."I have been at United for a number of years now and since the first day here I have enjoyed every minute," Pereira said after his new deal was confirmed.

"Over the last season I feel I have made great progress as a goalkeeper and this will stand me in good stead for continuing my development as a Manchester United player.

"There have been many memorable moments for me at this club; however, making my debut for the first team at Old Trafford was unbelievable for me and my family.

"I want to thank the manager and his coaching team for the help and guidance they have given me and I look forward to playing a part in the squad for many years to come."

:shocked:Man Utd-bound Lukaku arrested in Los Angeles over noise complaint

    romelu-lukaku-everton_dw3urqd8akpq1vjpnktlf0mhl.jpg

Romelu Lukaku will appear in a United States court in October after being arrested in Los Angeles last week over a noise complaint.

The Everton striker, who is on the brink of joining Manchester United for £75m, has been holidaying in the U.S and was given a “misdemeanour citation” following the incident on 2 July.

A Beverly Hills police statement said Lukaku was released at the scene of the incident, in which officers responded to five other noise complaints at the same location.

The full statement read: “On July 2, 2017, at approximately 8:00 PM, Beverly Hills Police Department officers arrested a 24-year-old male subject by the name of Romelu Lukaku Bolingoli.

“Bolingoli received a misdemeanour citation for Beverly Hills Municipal Code Violation 5-1-104 - Excessive Noise.“The citation was issued after officers responded to five other noise complaints from the same location, which resulted in verbal warnings.

“These noise violations occurred at a residence in Beverly Hills where Bolingoli was temporarily residing. Bolingoli was released at the scene with the citation and was not physically arrested.

“Bolingoli is scheduled to appear at the Los Angeles Airport Courthouse on October 2, 2017.”United revealed on Saturday that they have agreed reached an agreement with Everton to sign Lukaku in a mega-money deal.

Lukaku, who scored 25 goals in 37 Premier League games for the Toffees last season, had also been a top target for Chelsea but the league champions are set to miss out on the forward.

United had initially been keen to land Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata but moved for Lukaku after growing frustrated with negotiations with the Liga outfit.

Juventus close to agreeing deal with Bayern Munich to sign Douglas Costa

    douglas-costa-bayern-munchen_1mi6ml3pxeqlkzu04qa073fe0.jpg

Juventus are close to reaching an agreement with Bayern Munich over the transfer of Douglas Costa, Goal understands.

The Bianconeri have offered €10m to land Costa on an initial loan deal with an obligation to buy him permanently for €30m at the end of the 2017/18 campaign. And the Serie A giants are now hopeful of wrapping up the deal next week as they finalise the details of the financial package with Bundesliga champions Bayern.

The two clubs are ironing out the last details with Juventus having already agreed terms with Costa. The 26-year-old will earn €6m per season in Turin.

Juventus had also been linked with Paris Saint-Germain defender Serge Aurier and Real Madrid's Danilo, but the club can only sign one non-EU player this summer.

The Old Lady, therefore, have opted to sign Brazil international Costa but they will have to wait until one of their current non-EU stars, Dani Alves, completes his switch to Manchester City under the rules.

But, while Juventus have ended their interest in Aurier and Danilo, they are also keen on signing Fiorentina and Italy man Federico Bernardeschi as well as Costa.Goal reported earlier in July that Juventus have tabled a €40m bid forBernardeschi and have already agreed terms with the player.

Neymar hopes Brazilian pal Paulinho signs with Barcelona

Neymar has voiced his support of Barcelona signing his friend and international team-mate Paulinho. The 28-year-old Paulinho is currently starring for Guangzhou Evergrande in the Chinese Super League after a disappointing spell with Tottenham Hotspur.

However, that poor spell in England has not deterred the La Liga giants, who had a €20 million bid publicly rejected by the Chinese club, who insisted the will not sell.

While there has been plenty of debate about the merits of such a move by Barcelona, Neymar is on board with the efforts and says he hopes the club can secure the services of his international team-mate.

"I hope Paulinho signs for Barca,” Neymar told SPORT. “He is a friend and a great player, everyone would receive him with open arms.“He's got great quality, everyone has seen what he can do when he plays for the national team."

Paulinho’s quality has been more apparent since his move to China, scoring 15 times in 58 league games for Guangzhou Evergrande. He’s also netted four times in seven games for Brazil during the country’s 2018 World Cup qualifying campaign.

For his part, Paulinho remains confident a move can be worked out and admitted he is thinking about a possible transfer to Barcelona.

Wayne Rooney has completed a return to boyhood club Everton after 13 years playing for Manchester United. The two clubs have been locked in transfer negotiations this week, with Romelu Lukaku set to go the other way for an estimated £75 million.

The England striker, 31, left Goodison Park in 2004 for £25.6m and returns for a reported £10m to help fill the void left by Lukaku's departure.

Rooney becomes the latest arrival at Goodison Park in an ambitious summer rebuild by Ronald Koeman, with big-money deals for the likes of Jordan Pickford, Micheal Keane, Davy Klaassen and Sandro Ramirez already wrapped up.

A product of the Toffees’ academy system left for Old Trafford over a decade ago after emerging as one of the most exciting talents in world football. That reputation was enhanced during a record-breaking spell with the Red Devils which saw him overtake Sir Bobby Charlton as the club’s leading all-time goalscorer – while claiming the same record with England.

Rooney also collected an enviable collection of silverware with United, including five Premier League titles, the FA Cup, three League Cups, the Champions League and the World Club Cup.

Despite all of that success, Rooney found himself slipping down the pecking order under Jose Mourinho in 2016-17 and, with his game time limited, speculation regarding a move elsewhere soon began to surface.Everton were quick to express their interest in bringing a home-town star back to his roots, and that deal has now been completed.

"Wayne has shown me that ambition that we need and that winning mentality – he knows how to win titles and I’m really happy he’s decided to come home,” Everton manager Ronald Koeman told the official Everton site.

“He loves Everton and he was desperate to come back. He is still only 31 and I don’t have any doubts about his qualities. It’s fantastic he’s here.”

:)Lukaku completes Man Utd medical ahead of £75m move

Less than 24 hours after Manchester United announced the club had agreed a deal with Everton to bring Romelu Lukaku to Old Trafford, the striker has taken to Instagram to seemingly confirm the move with snaps of his medical in the United States. The Belgian's Instagram story opens with a shot of him in a waiting room and the word "Medicals.." written below it.

The story goes on to show the striker with wires attached to him and a laughing-crying face emoji above it, with "Please come save me" as the caption.
The two closing frames show Lukaku signing a Manchester United shirt for a young fan with the caption reading "First Manchester United fan I've met..#Blessed #Thankful" and a final frame of him giving a thumbs up captioned "Finito".
His medical snaps came hours after it was confirmed he was arrested last week over a noise complaint and is scheduled to appear in a United States court on October 2.A statement released by Beverly Hills Police Department detailed that Lukaku received a misdemeanour citation on July 2.

Police said the citation, after which Lukaku was not physically arrested, came on the back of verbal warnings following five other complaints about noise levels at his rented accommodation.

The forward had also already been spotted training with Man Utd midfielder Paul Pogba in Los Angeles earlier in the week, and on Saturday the France international welcomed the Belgian to the club.

Lukaku, 24, will reunite with former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford for a reported £75 million fee.United had targeted Real Madrid forward Alvaro Morata to help fill the void left by last season's top goalscorer Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Mourinho has now turned to the Belgium international to try to fix and attack that only found the back of the net on 54 occasions in the Premier League last term – the lowest tally among the top seven teams.

Lukaku himself netted nearly half that number, 25, in the league during the 2016-17 season, eight more than Ibrahimovic. Manchester United head to United States for the club's summer tour on Sunday.

Lukaku reveals how Pogba convinced him to join Man Utd

Romelu Lukaku says his conversations with Paul Pogba about Manchester United sparked his interest in joining the club.

The striker has had a medical at United and is set to complete a transfer after they agreed a £75 million deal with Everton.Lukaku rejected interest from Chelsea, who matched United's bid, to reunite with Jose Mourinho, and he says he did not need to think twice about his decision to move to Old Trafford, in part thanks to his friend.

"I've been talking to [Pogba] for about seven or eight years. And now he's living in Manchester," he told ESPN. "I live in Manchester. He lives like down the road from where I live, so we're together on a daily basis.

"He was explaining to me how it went at the club, and it triggered something in my head. When the opportunity came, I didn't have to think twice. I'm really excited.
"I think they're all top players, a good group of guys that is hungry to win trophies.

"To play in front of those fans, everything is set there to perform. But, you know, I have to work harder than I'm doing now. I know the road is still far, but I'm willing to go on that path and grab the opportunity that I get."

The 24-year-old ended the 2016-17 campaign with 25 goals from 37 Premier League games as Everton finished seventh, eight points behind United.
