Paris Saint-Germain 6 Bordeaux 2: Neymar, Cavani dispel rift rumours in emphatic victory

    wire-1446701-1506792897-888_634x433.jpg

Neymar and Edinson Cavani brought a resounding end to talk of a rift between them as Paris Saint-Germain romped to a stunning 6-2 victory over Bordeaux at the Parc des Princes.

Reports of ill feeling between the two surfaced after an on-field disagreement over penalty-taking duties during the 2-0 win over Lyon a fortnight ago, but they showed that is firmly behind them on Saturday.

PSG were awarded a spot-kick in the 40th minute following a foolish handball by Otavio and Neymar converted it before turning to celebrate with Cavani, who won their argument against Lyon but was denied from 12 yards.

That was Neymar's second of the match, the Brazilian having opened the scoring with a sublime free-kick and setting up Cavani for his eighth Ligue 1 goal in as many outings this term.

Unai Emery's intention to attack was clear from his selection of Julian Draxler in place of Thiago Motta – one of four changes from the 3-0 Champions League victory over Bayern Munich on Wednesday – and the German rewarded his coach with a scintillating volley and an assist for Kylian Mbappe in the second half.

Thomas Meunier also netted with Younousse Sankhare and a Malcom penalty providing Bordeaux's consolations as Jocelyn Gourvennec's side suffered their first league defeat of the season, meaning PSG are the only unbeaten team left in the top flight.

PSG took just five minutes to get on the scoreboard. Mbappe's quick feet drew a foul from experienced defender Jeremy Toulalan in a central position 30 yards out and Neymar dispatched a beautiful free-kick that spun away from Benoit Costil and into the top-left corner.

Seven minutes later the hosts' captivating front three linked up magnificently to double their advantage. Mbappe flicked Presnel Kimpembe's pass inside for Neymar, whose throughball found Cavani running in behind Vukasin Jovanovic to stab past Costil.

The unrelenting hosts were three to the good when Meunier guided Yuri Berchice's left-wing cross home, Mbappe's failure to connect enabling the ball to run through to the Belgian.

But PSG were guilty of stepping off the gas and Bordeaux took full advantage. Theo Pellenard held up the ball brilliantly before spinning away from Marco Verratti and sliding a pass into Nicolas de Preville, who squared for Sankhare to add a simple finish.

Francois Kamano failed to head on target in a gilt-edged opportunity before Alphonse Areola kept out Malcom, but the visitors were out of the game by half-time. Otavio handled the ball in the box after Kamano failed to clear and Neymar sent Costil the wrong way from the resultant penalty.

Draxler made it five when, after launching the break, he met a cross from Mbappe with an exquisite cross-goal volley with the outside of his left boot that gave Costil no chance.

After a tepid start to the second period their roles switched, Draxler winning possession in the Bordeaux half and supplying the ball that Mbappe guided across the keeper and inside the far post in the 58th minute.

Cavani was warmly applauded as he made way for Angel Di Maria after the hour mark and PSG struggled to threaten in the Uruguayan's absence.Instead it was Bordeaux who went close as substitute Alexandre Mendy rattled the post and Kamano was kept out by an impressive stop from Areola.

Neymar volleyed a chance for his hat-trick wide from a delightful Giovani Lo Celso chip in the 80th minute, but it was another Brazilian who had the final say.
Meunier sent Jonathan Cafu tumbling in the box and Malcom slammed the penalty into the top-right corner for a goal that did little to dampen spirits at a jubilant Parc des Princes.

:love:Manchester United 4 Crystal Palace 0: Fellaini hits double as Mourinho's men cruise

    44E3B00000000578-4936310-image-m-206_1506785025060.jpg

Marouane Fellaini scored twice as Manchester United cruised to a 4-0 victory over rock-bottom Crystal Palace in the Premier League at Old Trafford.

Juan Mata, one of Jose Mourinho's five changes from Wednesday's win over CSKA Moscow, struck early on, netting his first Premier League goal since February on his 200th appearance in the competition.

And two close-range finishes from the in-form Fellaini either side of half-time took his season tally to four before Romelu Lukaku sealed a comprehensive victory late on as United continued to impress even without the injured Paul Pogba.

United's win, which saw Marcus Rashford also shine with two assists, moved them top of the Premier League, a position they will keep unless Manchester City can defeat fellow title rivals Chelsea at Stamford Bridge later on Saturday.

Mourinho's side have won seven consecutive matches in all competitions, while Palace are pointless and still without a goal from as many top-flight games as their abysmal start to the campaign goes on.Palace's confidence was already shot coming into the game and United took advantage to move ahead inside three minutes.

Rashford – another of the stars brought in by Mourinho – was the creator, easily cruising past Joel Ward down the left and cutting back to Mata, who finished simply with his left foot from 12 yards.

A quiet spell followed the early drama, with the next shot on target for either side not coming until after the half-hour mark when David de Gea beat away an effort from Bakary Sako, who was starting in an unfamiliar striking role with Christian Benteke out injured.United had not tested Wayne Hennessey since their opener, but ruthlessly doubled their lead in the 35th minute. Ashley Young delivered a magnificent in-swinging cross from the left which left Fellaini with an easy task to volley in at the far post.

That buoyed United, with Chris Smalling heading inches wide and Hennessey making a good save from Rashford at his near post as a demoralised Palace side went into the break two behind.

Having struck early in the first half, United repeated the trick within four minutes of the restart. After Young was fouled by Luka Milivojevic, Rashford earned his second assist by whipping in an excellent free-kick from the left and Fellaini made no mistake, heading in from two yards.

Jeffrey Schlupp was angry to have a penalty claim down after a challenge from Smalling at the other end, while Young drew a save from Hennessey as United searched for a fourth. Lukaku had a quiet outing, but should have scored when he took advantage of an advantage from referee Mike Dean to run into the area and send a left-footed strike inches wide when he appeared destined to find the far corner.

Palace's wait for a goal went on, with Andros Townsend's free-kick flying just wide in their only opportunity in the closing stages, before Anthony Martial was impressively denied by Hennessey after being played in by fellow substitute Ander Herrera.

But United were not to be denied a fourth goal, Lukaku getting his seventh in as many league games by tapping in from six yards after Herrera and Martial had again combined in impressively creating the opportunity.

Augsburg 1 Borussia Dortmund 2: Brilliant Kagawa seals points for Bosz's boys

    wire-1447221-1506797462-149_634x356.jpg

Borussia Dortmund put midweek defeat against Real Madrid behind them to open up a five-point lead at the top of the Bundesliga with a 2-1 win at Augsburg.Andriy Yarmolenko opened his league account for Peter Bosz's men as the away side made a swashbuckling start.

In the week Bayern Munich parted company with Carlo Ancelotti, Dortmund seemed eager to further strengthen their hand domestically, with nearest challengers Hoffenheim and Bayern not in action until Sunday.

Caiuby checked this ambition with a well-worked equaliser but Shinji Kagawa netted a 23rd-minute chip and Augsburg were fortunate to escape to half-time without further damage.

Dortmund's level dropped considerably in the face of a spirited showing from the hosts during the second half while a farcical penalty miss compounded a wretched outing for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and set up an unnecessarily nervous finale. But former Ajax boss Bosz was able to look back on a job well done and six wins out of seven in an unbeaten start to life in the Bundesliga.

Augsburg striker Alfred Finnbogason headed too close to Dortmund goalkeeper Roman Burki from Marcel Heller's chipped cross early on, while Marwin Hitz brilliantly kept out a Kagawa drive low down to his right.

An all-action start yielded a fifth-minute opener from the Dortmund corner following that attack – Yarmolenko impishly backheeling home after the ball dropped to him in the six-yard box.

Bosz's side appeared in rampant form but they were pegged back six minutes later as Caiuby applied a headed finish to Philipp Max's superb cross from the left.Hitz parried away a rasping Aubameyang strike, although he could only look on in grudging admiration when Kagawa restored Dortmund's advantage.

A defensive mix-up between Max and Martin Hinteregger allowed Aubameyang to take possession inside the Augsburg box on the right and work the ball to Kagawa via Yarmolenko. On the edge of the area, the Japan star took aim and launched an audacious chip into the far corner.Aubameyang should have made it three when he sprung the Augsburg offside trap but an array of stepovers did not distract Hitz, who also reacted well to keep Mahmoud Dahoud's deflected 44th-minute effort out of the bottom right corner.

The hosts started the second half on the front foot, with Daniel Baier's dipping long-ranger providing a nervous moment for Burki, who again failed to convince in dealing with set pieces.

Dortmund's earlier fluency had all but deserted them by the time Yarmolenko made way for Maximilian Philipp in the 64th minute, however Aubameyang passed up another chance to seal the points when he powered a header from Christian Pulisic's inviting centre straight at Hitz.

The Gabon star's afternoon got worse 11 minutes from time when a referral to the Video Assistant Referee system penalised Augsburg substitute Ja-Cheol Koo for pulling Lukasz Piszczek's shirt.Shrugging off his previously lacklustre finishes, Aubameyang launched a "Panenka" penalty, only for Hitz to stand his ground and catch the ball with ease.

Thankfully for the normally prolific striker and his team-mates, the earlier and far more accomplished chip from Kagawa remained the game's decisive moment after another wicked Max cross narrowly evaded both Finnbogason and the far post in stoppage time.

Chelsea 0 Manchester City 1: De Bruyne stunner sinks champions

    44E65CD100000578-4936824-image-m-79_1506796288387.jpg

Kevin De Bruyne scored the only goal in sublime fashion as Manchester City returned to the top of the Premier League with a deserved 1-0 win over champions Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Pep Guardiola's side made it eight consecutive wins in all competitions and dominated for long periods against Chelsea, whose limited attacking intent was further compromised by top scorer Alvaro Morata limping off in the 35th minute with an apparent left hamstring injury. An exemplary showing from the home defence, in which Andreas Christensen was outstanding, meant City struggled for a regular flow of clear-cut chances despite their superiority.

That was until De Bruyne seized the moment, something his game-breaking goal against Shakhtar Donetsk in midweek demonstrated he is increasingly adept at doing. The Belgium midfielder collected a return pass from Gabriel Jesus in the 67th minute before unleashing an unerring left-footed finish from outside the area.

The result places City ahead of Manchester United at the summit on goal difference, although their advantage in that regard was slashed to one by Jose Mourinho's men thumping lowly Crystal Palace earlier on Saturday.Chelsea are fourth, six points off the pace heading into the October international break.

Conte preferred Cesar Azpilicueta to the more attack-minded Victor Moses at right-wing back but the Spain defender was involved when Chelsea crafted the game's first opening in the third minute. Azpilicueta played in N'Golo Kante down the right channel and the midfielder's clipped cross was glanced over by Morata.

Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois restarted with a short goalkick in the 12th minute and dallied after receiving possession back. He was fortunate to see a clearance thud into City striker Jesus and go over the crossbar.City were dominating possession but needed a brave headed clearance from Nicolas Otamendi in the 26th minute as Antonio Rudiger's cross threatened the near post, and Ederson scrambled to deny Azpilicueta on the follow-up.

The visitors sprung up the other end in slick fashion, only for Raheem Sterling to float a cross too far in front of Jesus and David Silva, who were queuing up to finish.

Silva took matters into his own hands as Courtois thwarted a stinging drive at his near post, before the Spain playmaker saw one of his compatriots in the opposition line-up depart early.

Willian's introduction in place of Morata meant Chelsea were operating without a recognised striker and City continued to make most of the running in attacking terms - Courtois reacting magnificently to keep out Fernandinho's 44th-minute header.Guardiola's men continued to zip precise passes around after the restart, with the Chelsea defence increasingly well-manned.

Sterling hooked a left-footed volley over in the 54th minute – a rare instance of an attacker finding space inside the home penalty area.City's defence switched off and were bailed out by Ederson after the hour passed, the Brazilian denying Eden Hazard on the end of Cesc Fabregas' cleverly disguised free-kick.

Silva's decision to take a touch on the end of Sterling's 66th-minute cutback proved his undoing before he nicked another ball from the England winger away from Jesus' path.It fell to De Bruyne to give his fellow playmaker a lesson in how to be clinical when he lashed beyond countryman Courtois.

Conte sent on Michy Batshuayi and Pedro in place of Hazard and Tiemoue Bakayoko to chase an equaliser but it was City who almost embellished a stirring victory when Rudiger headed Jesus' volley off the line in the 85th minute.

Stoke City 2 Southampton 1: Crouch the hero as Potters return to winning ways

Peter Crouch returned to haunt his former club by coming off the bench to net a late winner as Stoke City saw off Southampton 2-1 in the Premier League.

Maya Yoshida's stunning 75th-minute volley had looked set to snatch a share of the spoils for Southampton, but, having replaced Saido Berahino - who missed a penalty in the first half, Crouch was on hand to tuck in from point-blank range with five minutes remaining.

In an attritional encounter at the Bet365 Stadium, Mame Biram Diouf's maiden goal of the season put Stoke ahead late in the first half, before Virgil van Dijk - starting for the first time this season - gifted Mark Hughes' side the opportunity to double their lead when he fouled Berahino.Van Dijk's blushes were spared by Fraser Forster though, as he kept out Berahino's tame effort from the spot.

The former West Brom forward has now missed three top-flight penalties since his last league goal, but his replacement Crouch made no such mistake when he flicked home following Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting's persistance.

Southampton rallied in search of another equaliser, with Kurt Zouma clearing Charlie Austin's effort off the line, but Stoke held firm to bring a four-match winless run to a halt.

Stoke started brightly, Van Dijk and Forster in the thick of the action as they denied Choupo-Moting and Xherdan Shaqiri respectively. Forster had to be alert again on the half-hour mark, getting down to his right to turn Choupo-Moting's effort wide, but Stoke finally earned their lead soon after.Shaqiri whipped in a quality corner from the right, and Diouf, although the ball was slightly behind him, got up high to plant a powerful header past Forster.

Stoke should have doubled their lead within two minutes when Van Dijk fouled Berahino, but Forster dived to his left to ensure the 24-year-old's long wait for a first Stoke goal continued.Forster came to Southampton's rescue again after the restart, reacting sharply to stop Shaqiri's deflected cross finding the net.

Southampton should have been level moments later, only for Shane Long to twice head over after connecting with two exceptional deliveries from Cedric Soares.
Long played a key part in Southampton's eventual leveller, though - prodding Sofiane Boufal's corner towards Yoshida, whose acrobatic attempt rattled in off the crossbar.Stoke would not settle for a point, though, Choupo-Moting doing brilliantly to tee up Crouch, who nudged home to send the home crowd into raptures.

Southampton substitute Austin could have added further drama in stoppage time, but Zouma got back to hook off the line and secure a hard-fought victory.

West Brom 2 Watford 2: Richarlison leaves it late to save Hornets at The Hawthorns

Richarlison proved to be Watford's hero once again as his late header rescued a 2-2 draw against West Brom at The Hawthorns on Saturday.

After scoring a dramatic winner away at Swansea City last weekend in the Premier League, the Brazilian popped up with an injury-time equaliser to complete an impressive comeback after Watford had trailed 2-0 in the first half.

The goal - conceded in the fifth minute of added-on time - denied West Brom a maiden win in September after they had scored twice in the space of three first-half minutes.

Salomon Rondon's first goal of the league season was quickly followed by a header from Jonny Evans, meaning the hosts had scored twice in a Premier League game for the first time in the campaign.

Yet Watford fought back impressively to preserve their unbeaten record on the road, Abdoulaye Doucoure halving the deficit with a left-footed drive before Richarlison nodded in Jose Holebas' free-kick right at the death.

Dignified in defeat at Arsenal on Monday, West Brom took the direct approach to open the scoring in the 18th minute. Grzegorz Krychowiak's long ball over the top allowed Rondon to bully his way beyond Christian Kabasele before somehow beating Heurelho Gomes from an acute angle.

Their second owed a debt of thanks to the unfortunate Doucoure, the Watford midfielder inadvertently flicking on Matt Phillips' corner from the left to allow Evans to provide the finishing touch from close range.

Watford were fortunate Ahmed Hegazi did not capitalise on a misjudgement from Gomes to make it 3-0 from another corner, yet the visitors - who had won their first three away league games this season - finished the first half strongly to raise hopes of a comeback.

After inadvertently teeing up Andre Carrillo with a scuffed shot that his team-mate headed over with the goal at his mercy, Richarlison provided the assist for Doucoure, who strode forward to claim a through pass before beating Ben Foster with a low, left-footed shot into the bottom right corner.Silva's side continued to look the more likely scorers early in the second half.Etienne Capoue's crisp drive appeared on course to find the net, only for Gareth Barry - making his 634th Premier League appearance - to get a crucial touch and deflect the ball wide.

Still, Watford struggled to turn their dominance into opportunities against a West Brom side that were happy to sit on their lead to such an extent that Foster was warned about time wasting with 25 minutes still to play.

It appeared their defence would hold firm until a set piece on the left gave Watford one last chance. While goalkeeper Gomes could not quite get on the end of Holebas' wonderful delivery, Richarlison rose to head in an equaliser in the nick of time.

West Ham 1 Swansea City 0: Sakho saves the day for Hammers

Diafra Sakho came off the bench to fire West Ham to a last-gasp 1-0 home win over Swansea and save Slaven Bilic from a fresh wave of scrutiny.Senegal striker Sakho bundled in a killer 90th-minute cross from fellow substitute Arthur Masuaku to secure a vital second victory of a difficult Premier League campaign to date.

The Hammers had looked short on attacking ideas throughout a frustrating afternoon and the second-half substitution of Javier Hernandez was greeted with boos by the home fans, but they were soon in raptures as Bilic's gamble paid dividends.

Under pressure after taking just one win from six league outings, the Hammers boss partnered Hernandez and Andy Carroll in attack in an attempt to outgun a goal-shy Swansea.

But it was the Swans who settled the quickest into their new 4-4-2 as Paul Clement's move to a diamond midfield resulted in a several tidy passing moves in a subdued first half. The second half continued in a similar trend until Sakho's timely intervention, ruining what would have been the visitors' first away clean sheet against West Ham.

Michail Antonio passed a late fitness test to start on the right of a four-man midfield and the winger looked lively early on, forcing Lukasz Fabianksi to claw a miscued volley away from the top-left corner.

Swansea joined the hosts in fielding two out-and-out strikers and a swerving effort from one of that pair, Wilfried Bony, drew a strong hand from Joe Hart in the 15th minute.

Pablo Zabaleta then produced an important block to spare his goalkeeper from more work as the Swans began to turn their dominance of possession into an attacking threat.

The visitors did receive a let-off just prior to the half-hour mark when Renato Sanches, who was dropped for last weekend's 2-1 defeat against Watford, escaped with only a yellow card for a late, studs-up challenge on England full-back Aaron Cresswell.

And, after Fabianksi collected a tame Andre Ayew header, both sides had reasons to welcome the end of a tepid first half.Carroll seemed destined to break the deadlock when Antonio dropped an inviting cross to the far post, but the ball just evaded the forward's outstretched left boot.

Bilic called Manuel Lanzini from the bench just after the hour in search of more creativity, although their growing momentum was momentarily halted when Fabianski required treatment following a heavy fall. With both sets of forwards failing to fire, Swansea left-back Martin Olsson almost surprised Hart when his clever right-footed attempt curled narrowly around the left upright.

But, after Carroll struck the crossbar from one fine Masuaku delivery, the left-back repeated the trick in flashing a low ball across the face for Sakho to gleefully tuck away.

'They do all the work' - Mbappe loves playing with playing with PSG stars Cavani and Neymar

Teenage sensation Kylian Mbappe said it is easy to play with Neymar and Edinson Cavani after the pair inspired a landslide victory for Ligue 1 leaders Paris Saint-Germain.World-record signing Neymar bagged a brace and Cavani was also on target as PSG crushed Bordeaux 6-2 in Paris on Saturday.

The pair dispelled rift rumours after an on-field disagreement over penalty-taking duties against Lyon a fortnight ago, helping PSG to their most prolific first half in Ligue 1 history, having scored five goals in the opening period.

Speaking about Neymar and Cavani post-match, Mbappe – who completed the scoring for PSG approaching the hour-mark in the French capital – said: "It's easy to play with players like that [Cavani and Neymar]."They are really great players. I just have to adapt to their movements, to pass them the ball, and they do all the work."

Neymar converted a penalty during the match, with Cavani happy to let the Brazil international take the spot-kick in the 40th minute as the pair hugged. However, Mbappe refused to be drawn on whether this will remain the case for future games.

"I saw like you: He took the ball, he shot and he scored, end of story," the 18-year-old added. "Now, I think you'll talk about it and you'll analyse so you'll know better than me!"
