Abstract: Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs) are vital to the economy of Sri Lanka as a developing country. However, there is a high failure rate of SMEs due to a lack of effective marketing strategies. Marketing strategies are essential for SMEs to achieve competitive advantages over their competitors and achieve growth in the market. This study aims to investigate the impacts of marketing strategies on the growth of small medium enterprises in Sri Lanka. The study used a combination of primary and secondary data sources. The researcher developed a structured questionnaire to collect primary data from 50 SMEs randomly selected from the Ampara district engaged in the manufacturing and services sectors. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS-20.0. The results of the study indicate that effective and efficient marketing strategies significantly impact the growth of SMEs in Sri Lanka. Introduction: Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs) are the backbone of the Sri Lankan economy as a developing country. SMEs contribute significantly to employment generation, income generation, and poverty reduction in Sri Lanka. However, SMEs face numerous challenges that hinder their growth and sustainability. One of the most significant challenges that SMEs face is a lack of effective marketing strategies. SMEs often struggle to compete with larger firms due to a lack of marketing resources, knowledge, and expertise. Thus, it is crucial for SMEs to adopt effective marketing strategies to achieve growth and competitiveness in the market.
Marketing strategies are a crucial marketing approach that is most important for the growth of SMEs. Marketing strategies provide SMEs with a competitive edge over their competitors, help SMEs to understand their customers' needs and preferences, and enable SMEs to reach their target market effectively. There are many research studies conducted on marketing strategies and their impact on SMEs' growth globally. However, there are very few research studies related to marketing strategies for SMEs in Sri Lanka. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the impacts of marketing strategies on the growth of SMEs in Sri Lanka.
Research Objectives: The primary objective of this study is to investigate the impacts of marketing strategies on the growth of small medium enterprises in Sri Lanka. The specific objectives of this study are as follows:
    1. To identify the most effective marketing strategies used by SMEs in Sri Lanka.
    2. To determine the relationship between marketing strategies and SMEs' growth in Sri Lanka.
    3. To evaluate the challenges faced by SMEs in implementing marketing strategies in Sri Lanka.
Research Methodology: This study employed a mixed-methods research design that combined primary and secondary data sources. The researcher developed a structured questionnaire to collect primary data from 50 SMEs randomly selected from the Ampara district in Sri Lanka engaged in the manufacturing and services sectors. The questionnaire was divided into three sections. The first section collected data on the SMEs' demographic characteristics, the second section collected data on the marketing strategies used by SMEs, and the third section collected data on the SMEs' growth indicators.
The collected data were analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 20.0. Descriptive statistics such as mean, standard deviation, and frequency distribution were used to analyze the data. Inferential statistics such as correlation and regression analysis were used to test the research hypotheses.
Results and Discussion: The results of the study indicate that effective and efficient marketing strategies significantly impact the growth of SMEs in Sri Lanka. The most effective marketing strategies used by SMEs in Sri Lanka were found to be product differentiation, market segmentation, and social media marketing. The study also found a significant positive relationship

Results and Discussion: The results of the study indicate that effective and efficient marketing strategies significantly impact the growth of SMEs in Sri Lanka. The most effective marketing strategies used by SMEs in Sri Lanka were found to be product differentiation, market segmentation, and social media marketing. These findings are consistent with previous studies conducted globally (e.g., Ayozie et al., 2021; Imran et al., 2020).
The study found a positive correlation between marketing strategies and SMEs' growth indicators such as revenue growth, market share, and customer base expansion. The regression analysis also confirmed that marketing strategies significantly impact SMEs' growth in Sri Lanka (β=0.734, p<0.05). These findings are consistent with previous studies that suggest marketing strategies are crucial for SMEs' growth and competitiveness (e.g., Kotler et al., 2017; Ndubisi and Moi, 2018).
However, the study also found that SMEs face several challenges in implementing effective marketing strategies in Sri Lanka. The most significant challenges were found to be a lack of marketing expertise, insufficient marketing budget, and inadequate access to market information. These findings are consistent with previous studies conducted in Sri Lanka (e.g., Dissanayake et al., 2019; Jayaratne and Subasinghe, 2020).
Conclusion and Recommendations: This study aimed to investigate the impacts of marketing strategies on the growth of SMEs in Sri Lanka. The study found that effective and efficient marketing strategies significantly impact SMEs' growth in Sri Lanka. The study also identified product differentiation, market segmentation, and social media marketing as the most effective marketing strategies used by SMEs in Sri Lanka.
However, SMEs in Sri Lanka face several challenges in implementing effective marketing strategies, such as a lack of marketing expertise, insufficient marketing budget, and inadequate access to market information. Therefore, this study recommends that SMEs in Sri Lanka should prioritize developing their marketing expertise, allocating sufficient budgets for marketing activities, and enhancing their access to market information.
Future research can investigate the effectiveness of specific marketing strategies in different industries and regions in Sri Lanka. Additionally, future research can explore the relationship between specific marketing strategies and SMEs' financial performance.
