Microsoft and Rare have unveiled the official PC requirements for Sea of Thieves. According to the companies, PC gamers will at least need an Intel Q9450 or an AMD Phenom II X6 CPU with 4GB of RAM, and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650 or an AMD Radeon 7750.

For 1080p/60fps, Microsoft recommends an Intel i5 4690 or an AMD FX-8150 with 8GB of RAM and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770 or an AMD Radeon R9 380X graphics card. As it becomes pretty obvious, Sea of Thieves will be a GPU-bound game.
For 4K/30fps, Microsoft suggests an Intel i5 4690 or an AMD FX-8150 with 16GB of RAM and an NVIDIA GTX 980Ti or AMD Radeon RX Vega 56. For 4K/60fps, Microsoft claims that both NVIDIA’s and AMD’s top GPUs, the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080Ti and the AMD Radeon RX Vega 64, will be able to deliver a smooth experience on Ultra ‘Mythical’ settings.

Sea of Thieves releases next month and according to its executive producer, Joe Neate, it will not feature any loot boxes or pay-to-win micro-transactions. Rare does not want to split its playerbase which is why it will be offering most major updates for free to everyone.

As Joe Neate said:
“Our plans for launch is to deliver a good game experience, and so all our efforts are going to be on making sure everyone’s happy, we’re reacting to feedback if there are any issues, etc. But then, as we move into our service-based game – think about a month or two after launch – we’re thinking about our first major update that has new goals for people to achieve, new rewards and stuff.”
Now while the major updates will be completely free to everyone, Rare will introduce some micro-transactions to the game after a month of two since release. However, the team claims that these won’t be pay-to-win microtransactions.
“But we have to have an optional way for people to spend money in our game, because we are running it as a service with a large team. So we looked at the right way to do this for Sea of Thieves. The people who love our game, have been playing it for ages, and are happy to spend money on things that they love and the hobby that they enjoy – what feels right for our game? So anything we add in this area won’t affect power, won’t affect progression. You’ll know what you’re getting, so you will be buying something specific.”
As such, Microsoft and Rare will introduce pet micro-transactions to the game after its release. These pets won’t affect your gameplay and can be considered as a form of cosmetics.
Sea of Thieves is currently scheduled for a March 20th release!
