Hot on the heels of many crossovers a senior SLFP politician from the hill country, who held a powerful portfolio during the tenure of President Chandrika Kumaratunga is slated to extend his support to Opposition Common Candidate Gen. Sarath Fonseka soon, political sources claimed.
The politician had earlier planned to appear on the stage of Gen. Fonseka’s inaugural rally in Kandy on December 18.
A leading Muslim politician had, however opposed the presence of this politician on that day as of his alleged association to a violent incident in the run up to the 2001 general election.
Political sources said that everything had been arranged for the crossover of this politician on that day. They said that he would make the announcement soon.
