Which e-commerce industries are taking the biggest hit during the covid-19 pandemic?


My industry was one of the first to take a major blow and there’s no end in sight. We went from $150,000 in sales per week down to maybe $15,000. In an instant. It was like someone just flipped a switch and cut us off.

The only revenue we have coming in are from shoppers who started the ordering process before all of this hit, but even most of them are starting to pull out.

We have a program installed that allows me to monitor how many people are currently shopping on our website. I’m used to seeing well over 100 shoppers at any given time. As I type this, there are only 2.

We’re heading towards $0.00 in sales a week, and we’re heading there fast.

We had to temporarily layoff 8 people on Monday (March 16th). Tomorrow (March 20th), the rest will be gone.

The only people who will be left after tomorrow will be the owner, another manager, and me.

That doesn’t mean we’re not taking a hit ourselves. The other manager and I will be going from a significant salary down to minimum wage for 20 hours a week. The owner will not be drawing a salary at all.

I’ve been with this company for 13 years, and I’ve seen it thrive through all other pandemics and recessions. The economic effects of Covid-19 can not be understated.

If this pandemic lasts for too long, the company will tank and I’ll be on the job hunt, trying to scavenge whatever is left in the work force.

It’s a really bad time to be in the sports uniforms industry.
