you don't need to go somewhere to meditate

you can even meditate in your daily life. just let all thoughts come in, don't judge them or attach your mind or body to them, and let them leave.

Thanks. I already practice that. But I want a place for long sittings. That is why I am looking for a center dedicated for meditation and instructions.

Best Places for Meditation in Sri Lanka:
    1. Na Uyana Monastery-Kurunegala
    www.nauyana,org
    2.Meethirigala Nissarana Wanaya- Near Wedagama,Kirindiwela
    3.Kanduboda Vipassana Meditation Center- Delgoda
    4.Kalugala Monastery-Baduraliya,Matugama

All the places are very quite, surrounded by natural streams and forests(except Kanduboda). I dont have the contact nos..but do a little search on google and you'll find it easily...
Contact the monastery before you go there, sometimes places are crowded with laymen,, be sure to wear white Saron & Shirt if you going to stay... and most places need clearance report from police/grama sevaka or chief priest of the temple of your village/town..
hope this helps and wish you achieve ultimate spiritual freedom..

Thank you so much. I am actually looking for a place near colombo since I cannot travel far due to personal obligations (sick mother).

staying with your own mother is the best meditation if you leave her in colombo and meditate in a remote jungle its questionable.

Don't you ever leave your poor dedicated mum at home and start meditating at Thalagala Vipassana Meditation center that's my humble advice.

I am looking for a place to meditate somewhere near colombo (homagama - Thummulla). My mother will be taken care of during this period. I do not have proper condition at home for extended meditative practice. (say 4 hours a day). For that, I need to go away. But I meditate about 1 hour everyday. This is breath meditation in the sitting posture.

    Thank you for all replies.
