Sold by little-known electronics manufacturer, Kogan Technologies, the phone will be sold outright and carrier neutral from $299.
Dubbed Kogan Agora, the device will run Google’s open-source mobile operating system, Android, and will feature a full QWERTY keyboard, 2.5inch touchscreen and 3G connectivity.
The phone will also come preloaded with a bevy of Google applications including Gmail, Google Maps, Google Calender and YouTube.
“The Android operating system means the handset can capture and play music, photos and video, surf the web, play games, navigate, and organise your life with extremely powerful applications," Kogan Technologies founder, Ruslan Kogan, said.
A more expensive version, Kogan Agora Pro, will also be available at launch and retail for $399. It will come with an added 2megapixel camera, Wi-Fi, and GPS.
