GPRS enabled ticket system to be used as bus tickets

June 22, Colombo: Sri Lankan Transport officials are planning to introduce a new pre-paid card system to be used as a bus ticket.

The National Transport Commission (NTC) said that they have taken all the initial steps to introduce this new system.

Two private companies had already submitted applications to provide the machines and pre-paid cards for the buses.

Under the first stage of the programme, the new GPRS enabled ticket system will be implemented on bus routes in the Western Province.

Machan.. I think this is not for private busses.. coz, its not practical.,.. I think its for SLTB busses... that system is very easy machan.. Even the same system I have seen in Qatar also... You have to buy a prepaid card... while u get in to the bus.. u just keep ur card above the machine.. so they wil deduct ur amount..

Electronic bus tickets is not new concept and its widely used in a lot of countries but what the devil does the ticket need GPRS for ??

what are you complaining about, the amount of change your conductor keeps is enough to run a month without the bus running at all.

if its an electronic ticket, there's no cash payment in the bus. So no need for a conductor either!
