Hard drive partitioning

But there is a catch.

You know that the fastest part of the hard drive is the front part, right? Say you have all those files in your second partition. Say it's got about 50% full and the data is in the front half of that partition. Say you are installing a new game. The game has to go after the existing data. But the latter part of the drive is slower. And your seeks will be slower if you have the pagefile in the first partition. This is problem if you don't have the right defragmenting software.

I use Diskeeper 11 and when I select automatic defragmenting and i-FAAST, it will monitor the frequently accessed files and will move them to the front of each partitions. The files that don't need frequent accesses such as music files and video files are sent to the end of the partition. This way, it doesn't slow down.

If I didn't have this defragmenter, I would also have three partitions on my 320GB. One for the System, one for Games and the other for Data.
