Triglyceride to HDL ratio

The ratio between Triglyceride to HDL is called the Atherogenic Index of Plasma (actually the log of the ratio)

It is one of the best predictors for Cardio Vascular Risk.

It is a reliable proxy marker for Insulin Resistance & thereby Metabolic syndrome.

1 or less than 1 = Excellent
Less than 2 = Good
Between 2-3 = Pay attention
Above 4 = Risky

High value of TG/HDL ratio is linked to higher no. of small dense LDL particles, the dangerous kind.

How to bring this ratio down?

Lower Carb consumption

Fasting

Exercise

Include plenty of Healthy fats (Saturated, Mono unsaturated) in your diet

This ratio may not be present in your Lipid profile & may need to be calculated.
