Help me to learn English..

Hello Elakiri.com members! I'm sandu, Im here for get some help from you guys to learn English. Im 24 years old now. but sadly I cant speak in English, I cant writing English. but I can understand english slightly

I did lots of things to make my english better.
eg:- I tried to read and remember all words in Gunadasa Malalasekara dictionary. but its not that easy and I also I tried to remember basic english grammer rules, but sadly I coudnt remember anthying for long time

You are doing it wrong...you have to speak to improve..what you are doing now is like learning to swim by reading a book....speak with yourself in English,think in English,try to speak with someone as much as you can...

Here is the thing machan don't be afraid to fail. when it comes to the speaking it's not a language issue, it's a lack of communication skill. So first of all build your personality. that can raise you to the good speaker. Don't just try to remember each and every word in dic. That's not gonna work. watch english movies with subs, try understand the accent. Until you start believe in yourself You ain't gonna have life.. Cheers mate.

damndog - macn I dont have a good net connection to download movies, tv series and etc.. but I download youtube vid in .3gp mode and watching every day. Im now much famillier with native speakers accent, so I can get what thay are talking. but still had to improve english.

machan trust what on what you have already earned. don't fear to make mistakes. you have to speak to yourself. remembering each and every word doesn't do anything good for you. learn words from what you see, what you hear. listen to news,songs, films. believe me, i was also like you. but talking to me worked well.

don't worry mate,it's out second language so we are not proficient like native speakers.
if you are near to a British council you can go their speaking sessions, like Rs150 or so per day
you can join toastmasters too
watch tv series and films with out subtiles(mabe get some help from English subtitles),using Sinhala subtitles will never help
try to speak with friends in English.If you have tamil friends who don't use Sinhala it will be ideal, coz you'll always have to speak in English
