Help! Problem in my external hard disk

I bought a gadget which can connect hard disks' through USB. Actually it's not my hard disk, But my friend's. My PC is a laptop. HD worked perfectly past months. 2-3 days back I took it to my friend's house to transfer some files, and plugged it to his PC through that USB gadget and switched on the power. (That gadget has a power pack which can give power to hard disks'.) Suddenly it sparked because of his power chord. (Not the hard disk but the 3 pin plug of the power pack) I thought it was the end of it but it worked perfectly. So, I was cooled down. And copied the files.

Then, I came home and plugged again to my PC. Power pack of the gadget indicates the power bulb but HD does not start (No power). Before when I switch on the power I can hear the sound of HD starting. Now nothing. :(

I tried to plug it in with another friend's PC (Normal way), but the same problem persists. :(

So, please help me with this problem.

Thanks alot. :)

P.S. This is not a external hard disk, just a normal ones'

hehe... i just experienced wht u hav said in this post... i brought home a IDE-TO-USB convertor of one of ma friends to transfer some old files from my PATA HD to the SATA one... n just lyk u said the cable sparked whn i pluged it in... but thank god the HD is still workin.... my guess is that the plug must hav sparked whn u were tryin to remove it once u copied the files n that damaged the HD... :sorry: ... did u try plugin it in though the converter n in the normal way (straight to the PC's PSU n IDE cable)

I think the Problem is in the power pack or the circuit that gives power to the HDD.
Pulg in the HDD to the IDE cable and check. If it works then the problem is in the HDD USB adapter.

Cant give a proper answer without looking at the HDD. May be the problem is in the power inlet of the HDD. If that is tha case most probably you will be able to recover the data...

But in the worst case if there had been a power short inside the HDD, then ithin.....
sorry thamayi malliyo.. hitha hadaa ganna....

    This Works!!!

    Hey
according to diagnostics the problem is with ur Hard drive's MotherBoard ... SO ... ur data is might be still safe (Normaly this kind of power faults dont damage to hard drives Medium(Disks)).. So first u have to find burned a hard disk which's mother borad is good (Bad Sectors or something Like that.) .. But that hard disk should have same capasity , brand and model as u have .. then safly remove the mother boards from boath hard drives then get the good one(the one from bad sectors or something) and replace with ur hard drive then u CAN USE IT AS USUAL ....................   :)

Return your HDD to the place where you bought it. They'll do it.

    In a Chip !!!
If it worked even after the sparking then, can't think what is the reason to the burnt circuities......

see if any power pins are damaged. well if not i must say what "yasasvi" (POST #12) said is ur last option. u don't need to buy a circuit, just ask a friend and borrow one. copy the files and return the board back(since u need da files badly). may be i have i. (tell me the brand and capacity)

Hope u get ut data back bro....
