Thing is, my sister is always talking on skype and so I can't use the internet. We are using a 512 Kbps connection now

I want to know, if I get a 1 Mbps connection, will I be able to browse the internet while my sister uses Skype?

Thx guyz!

machang, I mean, will I be able to surf the internet at a good speed while talking on Skype with a 1 Mbps connection?

I mean, normally, cricinfo takes about 5 - 10 seconds to load, but when I am currently using skype, it takes nearly 1 minute! :S

skype is not that much of bandwidth eater. i think you can manage with the 512 connection. try to reduce the call quality of skype; though it s not going to harm the conversation never...

Machan i used to have video calls thru skype with a 512 kbps connection.
Now i use a 1Mbps connection and yes u can surf with a good speed while talking thru skype!
i ve experienced it broh! so dont worry go for it!
But there's one thing ; some times u may find it difficult to surf net ; i mean kindda slow even though not any bandwidth eating applications run on ya pc.
seems like thats a prob wid SLT; but download speeds and bandwidth needed for skype like apps are very good :D

ohh yes; download speeds are extemely good machan
I get almost 120-124 KB/S on RS premium links
110+ KB/S on MU Premium links
and in IPTorrents, for torrents which have good health; I get about 105 - 110 +KB/S
So maxxa package for 2900/= + tax :D

I don't think its worth it for your problem. You pay like double the price for X-cite, so unless you're downloadin a lot it's not worth it. But if can like buy a seperate connection ( Airtel limited package) it'll be much cheaper in the long run

More than the download bandwidth I think the problem is with the upload bandwidth. Because if you can’t get your requests out then you will not get any data back. A 512k only has 128k upload if I’m not mistaken, which is not very high especially when used for video calling. Does 1MB connection have a higher upload rating? If it does, then you shouldn’t experience any problems.
