How much Electricity units does your house consume?

We got the latest electricity bill a couple of days ago.

255 units!!! That's not the problem. It was Rs.4,000 something.

It's been 240 units for while, but the amount was in the Rs.2,xxx range. Dad says that after 180 units, the price of a unit increases dramatically, and he says I'm responsible for the high electricity bill, because I use the PC more than I used to.

Anyway, I had a chat with a friend, and he says that the most of the units are wasted if you use an electric kettle. I asked mom, and she said that she plugs it in 5 or 6 times a day on average. That's about 30-40 minutes. A kettle is 1500W or something right? So that's 1kWh per day!!! 30 units per month, just for the kettle.

Anyway, what are your thoughts on this?

Are you sure it was that low for the latest bill? I think they have updated the pricing policy. Watch out!!!!

I heard that the unit prices for 0-90 units is something (say "x"), then 90-180 is something higher (say "y") and then "z"....
If you get 185 units, it will be 185*z, not 90*x+90*y+5*z
That's a lot of $$$

well, thatz my bro.. he is in Beijing, China. his hard disk has a problem.. so it won't start if he turn off the pc. i mean it will start after 6-7 hours.. so, he doesn't turn his pc off.. always on. i went to his place 2-3 months back. and i opened his internet connection status. and the connection duration was 114 days, 12 hours and something..
