I highly doubt the taxes will come down, the same government which put up taxes for Hybrids, why would they put it down, and there is an huge discrepancy in taxes, the Alto gets a 120% tax, while a hybrid only gets 90%.

Yeah. On top of that, there was a news that there are too many motor vehicles in the country more than ever. The tax is rather likely to hike.

well it's true, vehicle registration's have gone up by 100%, so there's too many in the road, specially in Colombo. I hope the taxes won't go up, but rather keep it in the same level.

if the government's current issue is number of vehicles in the road, its not gonna relive by increasing taxes....:confused::confused:
i think as a country crucial and the best thing we should do is DEVELOPING PUBLIC TRANSPORT.....like many developed countries do....:yes:

One of the way's to curb is to put high taxes, and the other way is to develop the roads and widen it, and provide subways, mono rails, etc, that way some do not need to rely on own transport.

bro, i think making up high taxes rates wont help to this burden.as earlier one of the guyz mentioned it will only lead to accumulate some poor quality cheap vehicles in our roads....:no::no:

Subway, mono rails ect....yeh making the public transportation luxurious is the best way.... :baffled::yes::yes::yes:

I think putting an substantial tax is going to curb the vehicle market, and if they are worried about low quality vehicles, they can have specifications of what type/year/quality vehicles come into the country.

The customs has already put such a rule, EG: only can bring vehicles current year-3 years back. ETC.

If there isn't any taxes or the taxes has dramatically removed, then the capacity to run in the world would be full. There will be more maruti's and more lower quality vehicles, just because of the no tax policy.

In India its' different, looking at there country, and how much space they have it's different.

In Singapore vehicles have been taxed way more than any country in the world, the new Toyota Prius is 125,000 SGD (LKR 12,500,000) While in Thailand the same Prius is THB 1,000,000 (LKR 4 Million)
