ඉන්ධන මගින් ධාවනය වන මෝටර සහිත විදුලි වාහන සඳහා නව බදු කාණ්ඩයක් හඳුන්වා දීමට නියමිතයි. මේ සඳහා වන යෝජිත රෙගුලාසි අද (21) පාර්ලිමේන්තුවට ඉදිරිපත් කර තිබෙනවා.
කම්කරු හා ආර්ථික සංවර්ධන නියෝජ්ය අමාත්ය ආචාර්ය අනිල් ජයන්ත මහතා පැහැදිලි කර ඇත්තේ නිසි වර්ගීකරණයක් නොමැති වාහන දැනට පොදු කාණ්ඩයක් යටතට වැටෙන නිසා අසාධාරණ ලෙස අධික බදු අයවන බවයි. මේ තත්ත්වය නිරාකරණය කිරීම සඳහා, යාවත්කාලීන කරන ලද HS කේත භාවිතා කරමින් නව වර්ගීකරණ පද්ධතියක් සකස් කිරීම සඳහා කමිටුවක් පිහිටුවීමට කැබිනට් මණ්ඩලය අනුමැතිය ලබා දී තිබෙනවා.
මෙම නව වර්ගීකරණය සම්පූර්ණයෙන්ම විදුලි හෝ සම්පූර්ණයෙන්ම දෙමුහුන් (hybrid) නොවන අතර, ඒ දෙක අතර පවතින වාහන සඳහා අදාළ වේ. වාහනයේ සුඛෝපභෝගීත්වය සහ දැරිය හැකි මිල අනුව සකස් කරන ලද බදු අනුපාත සමඟ, මෙම වර්ගීකරණය යටතේ විශේෂ බදු පනවනු ලැබේ.

• නවීන වාහන වර්ග සඳහා සාධාරණ හා ප්රායෝගික වර්ගීකරණයක් සහතික කිරීම.
COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka is set to introduce a new excise duty category for electric vehicles that operate using fuel-powered motors. The proposed regulations were tabled in Parliament today (21) for approval.
Deputy Minister of Labour and Economic Development, Dr. Anil Jayantha, explained that vehicles without proper classification currently fall under a general category, which results in disproportionately high taxes. To address this, the Cabinet approved the formation of a committee to develop a new classification system using updated HS codes.
The new category will apply to vehicles that are neither fully electric nor fully hybrid, but fall in between. Special excise duties will be imposed under this classification, with tax rates adjusted based on the vehicle’s level of luxury and affordability.
Dr. Jayantha emphasized that the new system is designed to:
- Reduce tax burdens for lower-cost vehicles
- Impose higher taxes on luxury models
- Ensure fair and practical categorization for modern vehicle types
