The story of Yaksha origin of the Panduaba was first planted by Kumaratunga Munidasa. But even he did not had enough sure about that story. See what he had mentioned about the origin of Pandu Aba

file.php

Latterly people who wanted to attack to the Mahavihara tradition have used this unconvinced inconsistent judgment of KUMARATUNGA MUNIDASA for their unashamed purpose. Jackson Anthony is the latest of them.

The origin of “Yakkha” tribe was from “Persia”. They have migrated from “Persia” in ancient days, as the same way “Arians” arrived from “Western Asia/Europe” to “North India”; and “Tamils” were migrated from “North Africa” to “South India”. Therefore do not think Yakkha as the native people in our country. Before these foreigners (Arians, Tamils & Yakkha) migrated to our region (We can call now SAARC region), the native people were living here in our region. In Sri Lanka “Deva” Tribe were the native people. “Sumana Saman Devi” is one of them…

We do not have enough facts to promote “Yakkha” as natives of our land. Even they were foreigners to the region & the country, they(Yakkha) were become a part of Sinhalese from the days of Pandukabaya (Panduaba).
Before these foreigners (Arians, Tamils & Yakkha) come to the region, we had unique “Chinthanaya” in our region. That means; from “Bengal of India” to “Point Devundara of Sri Lanka”, we had a similar type of culture with some small changes related to the area. Even after the arrival of foreigners to the region, they have taken sometime to spread their cultures. It has taken many centuries to spread their cultures in the region.

Cultures of eastern part of India have not changed as much as it has happened in North & North-West of India. We can categorize the Eastern Indian culture as “Half Vedic” or “Arda Vaidika”. That is the culture of our Lord Buddha. Also Prince Vijaya & “Sinha Tribe (Sinha Vanshaya)” were from same culture.

As per our reading, Arians or Tamils were unable to spread their cultures here in Sri Lankan land; because there were no historical records about their arrival here in those days. Therefore mainly our culture is similar or close to the culture of “Half Vedic”. That may be the reason of Sinhalese liked Buddhism so much. That proves by our practice of Buddhism around 2300 years. But even though Yakkha were Sinhalese, they had problems with Buddhism because their original culture is somewhat different than others here. They have taken long time to become Sinhala-Buddhists. Also there was an initial resistance to the Buddhism by Yakkha.

I guess, people like Mr.Anothony are trying to use actions of Yakkha tribe against our Sinhala-Buddhist culture.

Recently, Mr. Anthony has addressed the public in University of Jayawardenapuara. Based on my information he said there, “he is a Sinhala Buddhist even though he is born as a Christian to his Catholic farther & Mother”.

Now he is trying to tell us not to consider his birth/blood to believe him as a “Sinhala Buddhist”. But he has changed the blood of PANUDABA (PANDUKABAYA) to “Yakkha Tribe” by his movie without any historical facts.

How can he ask us to see him as a Sinhala Buddhist? Please check the interview given by his WIFE to Sunday Observer…

http://www.sundayobserver.lk/2008/04/06/spe32.asp

“Conganiege Joseph Malsy Jackson Anthony was born to C.Benedict Anthony, a Foreman at the Electricity Board and Ethmadalage Rollin Perera at Ragama as the second of their five sons. Jackson had his education first at St.Mary’s College, Kandana. He entered Galahitiyawa Central College for A/Ls where Kumari too happened to be one of the students in his parallel classes.”
“He came from a strong Roman Catholic background, and mine was an ardent Buddhist one. Naturally the both families were opposed,” she reminisces.
“In order to satisfy his family Jackson asked Kumari to get herself Baptised.”

Can we believe Mr.Anthony as a “Sinahala Buddhist”?

Can he be a Sinhala Buddhist in such easy way still being a Catholic?

The history “Mr.Anothony is destroying these days”, has written by “Sinhala Bhikkus”. Why do we allow this person to make such statements in front of our people?
