I Once Knew a Girl

I once knew a girl
Who lived in an awful world
She had a good heart
That I thought she'd never part
She was always criticized
From people who stared with conceited eyes
Always made fun of for how she looked
Hurt badly for how personally she took it
She began to act quite angry
Enough, it seemed, to drive her crazy

Her hair turned from blonde to gold
The day her heart turned cold
Her sadness turned to anger
When her misery got the best of her
Occasionally she changed her mind;

Thought good again, just in time
She'd wish she weren't hated time and again
But what's done in the past can't be better again
She felt she had found the only way
To destroy the evil, but she didn't say
The next two weeks she wasn't at school
Some thought it was 'cause she couldn't be cool
But when I did see her, I couldn't stop screaming,
For in the school basement on a rope she was hanging!
I guess she thought the evil would stay
So she did what she could to end it anyway
I believe that she was tired
Of being made fun of for being shyer
My friend she was, which she'll always be
And thanks to her,
I'll stop letting misery get the best of me.
